Being a one of those Doom fans that considers the SC-55 the 'canonical' way to listen to Doom's soundtrack, it makes me very happy to hear her be given new songs to sing. To echo another comment here: long live the Sound Canvas!

This really changed by mind on the SC-55. I realized that it's just the associations with Microsoft GS that made me dislike it in the past. It's always a pleasure hearing these artists' music. (The album art is cool as well).

This is so good! It opened up my eyes to what the SC-55 is capable of. It was great listening to the MIDIs on my SC-55mkII and I appreciated the songs being named with DOS 8.3 filenames 😅

I'll second this, on both counts! [eye-opening and 8.3] My SC-55 has been primarily a DOS music powerhouse, but I think I'll be hooking my MPK up to it, this evening!

This is such a cool compilation full of brilliant, catchy compositions. The SC-55 has a nice texture: powerful, but soft and easy on the ears. It's clear even at the lowest volume, and sounds good even over phone speakers. But bumping it up over quality speakers or headphones feels like reliving my childhood in HD. Roland samples are nostalgic.

08:46's beginning sounds like a mixture of Launch Octopus's and Express UG (from Megaman Zero 1)'s beginnings IMO, and I freaking love that that, along with Industria, are definitely my absolute favorite songs here, but honestly, this album is just so good that choosing favorites is really just comes down to whatever style of music someone likes best here lol (A.K.A everything is crazy good

This is the pinnacle of early/mid 90's Japanese game music. Not sure, but I think the original Persona's soundtrack uses this and it's fantastic.
@tescoshortage
@tescoshortage 5 ай бұрын
I hear more SC-88 sounds in both Persona 1 and Persona 2 than SC-55, but it's really neat. Not only did they use samples from both the SC-55 and SC-88 (presumably), but Persona didn't use streamed .XA files or Redbook audio--it made use of .PSF files, which are essentially MIDI files. In theory, you could play a song from the first two Persona games on the SC-88.

VST is better for making music since it's based on the 8820 and has more sounds, but the SC-55 is still worth it on its own since it has some unique sounds that aren't in the VST.

I have the box but how do you make music with this thing using fl studio? Or even a midi controller like my arturia?
@WR3ND
@WR3ND 2 жыл бұрын
A lot of people use keyboards, but basically it's sequencing and layering of different note samples of instrument types and effects. The composition of making the music is in the selection and arrangement of what goes where, when, and for how long. In this case the instruments are the SC-55 and the musicians are the MIDI composers. A MIDI file is sort of like sheet music for the MIDI player.
@garystumpbeats8831
@garystumpbeats8831 Жыл бұрын
Controller- FL Studios then select which MIDI Channels you are sending data too, funnel them to the SC-55/88 with a USB - MIDI Interface, then route the Audio Outs of the Sound Canvas to Audio Inputs on an Audio Interface and record back into FL Studios. Basically you are taking piano roll midi note data from FL, and transmitting it into Audio, which is then recorded back into FL for mixing and mastering.

can somebody please let me know how all these songs were created? Were they just created using a single Roland SC-55 using midi in a modern DAW?
@SpeedySPCFan
@SpeedySPCFan 4 жыл бұрын
It's a mix. All the tracks were either sequenced and programmed in Sekaiju (a new old school MIDI sequencer for Windows), or sequenced in FL Studio and programmed for hardware playback in Sekaiju. Some composers used Sound Canvas VA in SC-55 mode, some used a real SC-55. At the end of it, EVERY track you hear is recorded from a real SC-55 no matter how it was composed and will play back on one as well.

@@SpeedySPCFan I see only 2 tracks were made using the MKI, so, the rest of the tracks are MKII? With the extra sounds? I am thinking of getting one myself now, but don't know if I should get an MKI or MKII. Are the extra sounds really worth it to compose music with?
