At my university metal club there were people into Melt-Banana, Flaming Lips, Gravediggaz, Sun Ra, and Slowdive. It was the "indie" dweebs who had the most same-y taste in my experience.

1. You can listen to Shoegaze AND Death Metal. I'm a fan of Bolt Thrower AND Slowdive, this is just stupid to say that the death metal guy won't be interested by shoegaze. 2. I go from Neil Young to Darkthrone all in a day. Maybe some Bone Thugs or The Cult. Top it off with some Smashing Pumpkins. Metal is my main love, but I enjoy different types of music depending on my mood. Lol

Love these guys. Really sucks Riley passed away. Hope they carry on in his honor. These guys are old school thrash metal. Straight to the point brutal, badass transitions and tempo changes in almost every song, and overall badassery! 🤘🤘

They're crossover. Really cool, each album has some sort of reverb to them and its a cool atmosphere to them

their music isn't as varied as their tastes. that's not an insult though. they stick to what they do well, which is writing tight songs that kick your ass and also have great atmosphere. they just craft their songs super well. something as simple as the noisy intro of Executioner's Tax transitioning to the chug, then adding in the main riff is so goddamn memorable. by the time the vocals come in, you've already heard an awesome song.

Jacob Rodriguez I don’t know if I agree with them being labeled a crossover band. To me when I think crossover I think more DRI or Municipal Waste. These guys are pretty straight thrash to me. Remind me of Arise era Sepultura.

Rest In Power Riley Gale! Bolt Thrower also broke up because their drummer died. Quote from the band: "We spent over 20 years together, touring the world, with 3 different vocalists, but he was so much more than just a drummer to us. So when we carried his coffin to his final resting place, the Bolt Thrower drummer position was buried with him. He was, and will now forever remain THE Bolt Thrower drummer, our Powerhouse and friend Martin 'Kiddie' Kearns."

Yeah, it’s no surprise to see their tastes are so diverse, they’re buddies with This Will Destroy You and have played with them before; have also talked to Riley before and learned that he’s a big fan of Cave In and Piebald even after both bands left their heavy phases. I respect these guys so much both on a musical and personal level.

I loved this. As a huge fan of Power Trip but also a fan of just about everything, I’m honestly glad to see that the metal scene I grew up in has evolved as much as it has. Gone are the days where we had “guilty pleasures” we were shamed for. Like what you like and keep an open mind. As far as I know, there’s no “shitty” music, just different tastes. Glad the PT dudes are as versed in some of the more obscure stuff.

When you ask a metalhead of their influences, you can expect a massively wide range of unexpected styles. For me it's classical, jazz fusion, 80's new wave, classic country, old school rap, and all the thrash, death metal, black metal, doom, traditional metal, limited hardcore, et al.

Coming back to this video again after the years. Riley was an insane vocalist and an amazing human being. So full of life, kind, and had a great sense of humor. He was a light in the darkness, he inspired and saved a lot of kids lives, I hope he knows that as he is chilling in heaven. He and the rest of the band had some really great picks, I’m grateful for them showing us some of their favorite records, Definitely am checking out their suggestions to broaden my musical palette!
