The finished concrete floor has been poured, and after partial curing, it was time to float the floor. This is done with a power trowel machine that we operate by hand. You can see how we did this in this video!
Why did I choose a concrete floor? Because the disadvantages do not outweigh the advantages. Concrete floor is seamless, maintenance-free, very suitable for underfloor heating, strong, load-bearing, etc.
When freshly poured concrete has been finished in the right way by means of a straightedge or float, it will look reasonably flat. However, bumps and bumps will still appear during the curing process. When hardened, concrete is a rock-hard material that is not easily influenced. Concrete troweling must therefore be done before the concrete has completely hardened.
When can you start power troweling? The time to start power troweling is when it is walkable after several hours of curing and you are not leaving deep footprints. If you sink into the concrete, you are too early and if the concrete has already hardened, you are too late.
Power troweling a concrete floor is the method to create a spacious, sleek and smooth appearance.
Concrete troweling is done with a trowel machine. After the concrete pouring has been completed, the top layer of the poured concrete is first sanded open one or more times with a power trowel to create a cement layer. This is done by means of a floating disc under the power trowel machine. If, after a number of times floating, a nice cement paste layer has formed on the concrete floor, the floating disc can be removed and the real power troweling can begin.
When troweling, the blades that are under the trowel are used. These blades close the top layer, as it were. The blades under the trowel machine can be adjusted in such a way that they polish the top layer more and more with every treatment. Some time must be waited between each power trowel treatment to allow the concrete to harden.
