Absolutely love my Powerblocks! They were a game changer for my home gym! Sold off my fixed set and saved a lot of space. It also eliminated the gaps I had at the heavier weights. My trick for the adder weights is I bought a spare pair that I keep empty for the 5lb increments. I have the Sport up to 90 and a second pair of the Classic up to 50. You can get the expansions for $100 if you're patient.

Powerblocks rock! It's crazy how much space they save. It's true, it's hard to have a lot of the heavier dumbbell increments when they are so darn expensive. If you bought a pair of 85 and 90lb dumbbells you could already have full expansion powerblocks. That's a good idea to have a spare handle of empty weights for even faster weight change times. I have a spare pair and will have to try that.

Thank you! Awesome detailed review, specially for europeans that would be too expensive to get the USA model. Btw, when you said you paid 700$, did you include both expansions 50-70 and 70-90 ? Cause at the moment, for 700 euros, I can only get the first expansion (50-70) 😅
@SelfBuilt

Thank you I'm glad I can help! Yeah they usually are cheaper than the USA models. Yes the $700 was both expansions. I've seen the prices fluctuate. Maybe keep your eye on them and wait for a price drop 💪

Hey dude I just got these and they're awesome. I do worry about that the selector clip could come out while I'm using the weights. I also worry that when I put the dumbbells back into the rest of the weight for storage that every time I do it I hit the rest of the weight with the dumbbell a bit as I try to put it back. I try to be careful and put it back slowly but I don't want to damage it after putting it back so many times. Do you have any advice on this? Thanks
@SelfBuilt
@SelfBuilt 8 ай бұрын
Congratulations on getting some powerblocks! You just did a major upgrade for your gym! I understand your concern on the selector clip. It's magnetic and holds onto the weight you pick. Plus when you lift the weight out of the stack the selected weight rests on the clip so it really can't go anywhere. On the not wanting to damage the weights when you slide them back in you just have to be mindful of doing it. Honestly after a while I stopped being as careful putting them back and they still show very little signs of wear. They are built really well! I hope that helps! If you have any other questions I'm happy to help! Thanks for watching!

I have some U90s I bought used on eBay. Love the quick weight changes and 1990s styling. I don't think many people need more than 90lbs for pressing, it's plenty.
@SelfBuilt

The U90s are awesome! I like their styling too. True, 90lbs is good for most people. I freaking love how quick the weight change is. I had the screw on and off dumbbells for a while and it took so long I didn't even want to bother. How long have you had yours?

Looking at Elite USA 90's. Knurled grips vs. cushioned?
@SelfBuilt
@SelfBuilt 2 ай бұрын
Those are great! I've really really enjoyed switching from cushioned to knurled. It seemed a bit pricey at the beginning when I bought the handles but I would definitely do it again. Much better control and feel. I have a video talking and showing how to do it if you are interested, let me find it.

@@SelfBuilt Thanks for the prompt reply. Ended up going w/Elite USA 90's w/the knurled grips, since they didn't cost extra. Thought about getting the stage 2 upgrade but had to watch cost so maybe those will be on sale at some point in the future. Anyway, looking forward to trying them out- Love the concept w/such a small footprint vs. full dumbbell set.

bought a pro 100 exp pair to 60 lbs and idk... they're very bulky. These are $287 on amazon rn and i'm almost thinking about ordering them to replace the pros. I feel like I need those extra handles, with the pros there is a bar in the way and I can't really do overhead tricep extensions. but how are these with hex presses? Stuck between these or rep quickdraws. I will probably get their new collab with pepin in the future and sell whatever I decide on for now.
@SelfBuilt

That's a bummer that the 100 Exps seem too bulky. I was excited to see that they were heavier. There are lots of great adjustable dumbbells to choose from. I'm so surprised that mine are only $287 right now. I've done hex press with them and they have been good. I've really quite enjoyed them. You have a good point and can always sell yours if you aren't happy with them. There is always a market for gym equipment. Anything else I can help with?

@@uppperkase No problem! I reply as soon as I'm able. I really don't notice any noise when curling. I normally workout with music. If I don't have any music and I shake the dumbbells I'll hear a small jangle noise. It's never been distracting for me. Do the 100 exp have any jangle to them?

EXP USAs are shorter than the EXP 2020. If you have EXP USAs the EXP 2020 expansions will fit but you'll have a larger "lip" above the original plate. Most people that have done this are okay with that.

How safe is it to hold the chambers when doing two-handed exercises? The leaflet that comes with it recommends against doing that as it may damage them.
@SelfBuilt
@SelfBuilt 5 ай бұрын
Excellent question! I've done many different exercises holding the two chambers and haven't had any worries. I biggest thing is you have to leave enough room for your hands to fully wrap around for a good grip. Otherwise, you might be treading into dangerous territory. WIth my hand size that limits me to no more than 60lbs.
