You’ve thought about it, no? The idea of having a giant, fat tyre at the back of the motorcycle, just like you see on the big bikes is a universal aspiration. There are also those amongst you who think that more rubber equals more grip, more confidence and a better riding experience. But does that add up? Are the manufacturers sticking skinny tyres on your bike just for the cost? Shumi has the answers

My karizma zmr v2 had a stock tyre of 120 at back and 80 at front. My rear tyre used to slip on heavy rains even in 40 to 50 kmph, but i upsized it to 130 and used the interceptor tyres by ceat and now that my rear end got grippier my front with 80 section tyres started slipping on roads or atleast i noticed it only when the rear got better. What tyre should i upgrade it to? The bike really picks up speed but the front tyre is scary. Should i upsize it and if yes pls suggest a good tyre for me. Note that the rim diameter is 18 inches and not the usual 17s and there are a few options.

I made a mistake when I upsized my Hero Impulse rear tyre to a 120/90-17 which is a Himalayan rear tyre. The original is 110/90-17, it looked cool, however I could never go beyond 65kmph.. Originally the 150cc is underpowered and it made matters worse. Shumi is 100% right, dont change your tyres

I have apache 200.. People say 90 section front and 130 rear are smaller for it.. I think 100 and 140 would do better.. I do 200km ride twice a month and some commuting and I stay in an area where there is a lot of slipper mud in the rainy season due to which the tyres have sometimes times slipped too... So i go for 100 and 140?

Great video. I have a 120 in the front and a 160 in the rear of my 2023 Honda CB750 Hornet. I prefer the look of a 180, nevertheless the bike performs so well I don't want to compromise its integrity. Cheers. Mike.

My CBR 150r came with tvs tyres which were trash, the stock size was 100/80-17 and 130/70-17. Since there were no good radial tyres at these sizes especially the front, i had to upsize them by 10mm. (110/60-17, 140/70-17) Have been running michelin pilot street radials since then. Recently replaced them with apollo alpha h1. I do have to lean them a bit more, but the bike feels better than ever before, top speed in each gear increased a bit too.
