Simon...your videos help viewers in more ways than you know....I usually end the day watching and again, your bravery with the mud in a nearly new car is impressive. Few will get used like that..my car has all the Traction upgrades etc but will never get near any mud with me! Now I do belong to a Walking Group in Wales (so no walks this year then!!!) and I do get to drive through a few streams and muddy lanes but I’m nowhere compared to you! Personally I love the new Defender, I'd love to own one if I could afford one, my only issue is I wish LR made it so people could put large off road tyres on it. If they did that then I wouldn't fear the competition. Every time I see the car get stuck, even in other videos, I just look at the lack of terrain on the tyres and see a problem straight away. (I'm no off-road expert but I know they make great help) Great honest video, though.

Not too bad running regular looking all season tires. You really need some AT tires for this kinda driving, probably can't go too large of a tire unfortunately.

Great video again Simon & George, What's the tyre size and speed rating on it ? I am having great difficulty finding tyres for my P38 diesel. 255/55/18 109 V XL I have no idea why my P38 is V rated ???

Try and get some BF Goodrich mud terrains KM3s on it, I’ve had them on my old defender for years and they are great on road and are super quite and handle well in the wet! The KM2s were the best I found as a all rounder but the newer KM3s still work well and are a great tyre, they will make a massive difference to that Defender when off roading in mud!

When you stuck like the first time, steer left and right as you're driving. You can only do so much with standard tyres but it'll help until you get some proper tyres. I'd go for much smaller alloys too, no bigger than 18s.

Low traction launch is not to get you unstuck. It is used to help you start on slippery surfaces to minimize wheel spin, such as a muddy or icy hill that you have stopped on, and want to start again.

Where is it you go to play off road? You’ve mentioned Bristol area now and then but wondered where as I live in the West Country and would love to find one or two places to get off road again in mine. Any reply appreciated.

Thanks for another great video. You didn’t turn off TRACTION CONTROL when you went up the steps ... You turned off DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL. DSC can reduce engine output, so it’s sometimes handy to turn it off, as you did. I agree that you definitely need to get better tyres. 🙂

When you got stuck trying to cross the ruts did you think of rocking the car back and forth by alternating between D and R ? You just need to build up some momentum and at the right moment give it more gas. In this case I would have tried going backwards. You can't do the D and R thing for too long as it can be hard on the transmission. If you fit tires like the BFG K03 you will see a big improvement.

Have been thinking of greenlaning but many insurance companies treat it like full off-roading and won’t have anything to do with it. Who do you use for your insurance and do they cover just greenlaning or full off-roading?

Does your new defender has the electronic rear axle locker ? You can order that locker as an option. ( in NL for 1244 euros, 'electronic active differential')

Thanks for your videos, both fitting and using, they are great honest stuff. I notice on this video you have fitted the front A frame protection. I am in Australia and information is fairly scarce here at the moment. I was tossing up between fitting a Bullbar (available from JLR Aust) or the Front Expedition Protection System which consists of A frame protection and the front Undershield. Are you going to do a video on the A frame protection?? Also does it strengthen the front enough, protect the radiator against an animal strike. I travel quite a lot in Australia and occasionally a kangaroo will jump in front. I hate hitting roos, not keen on hurting them and slow down, drive appropriate times etc. I have only hit 3 in 50 years of driving. I am not a big fan of the full bullbar and would like to know whether the A frame protector and Undershield could sustain an animal strike and allow the vehicle to continue without damage to radiator, engine bay etc. I have plenty of time to figure this out as I am about to order a new defender and delivery will be next April, will most likely fit all accessories myself (not bullbar, seems too hard and lots of cutting of panels) thanks to your videos. I will be getting off road tyres delivered and the optional rear diff lock. I don't think you have the rear diff lock? I think the lock will make more capable.

As I said before get some mud terrain tyres on your steel wheels it will be much safer and controllable in those conditions.

it was a great day, i reckon with some mud terrains it would have made the driving easier, my suzuki went everywhere the defenders went.

can't wait to see the 2020 defender on some gnarly big off road tires. I think with the use of some decent offroad tires this thing will destroy anything that comes in his path.

I can imgine this car in namibia desert or in amazon forest if broke something with a lot eletronic.Oh my good !! On brazil we call this land rover like lady rover its very expensive for off road and if broke something its very expensive parts on all countries.

Jeez I couldn’t be bothered with all that button pushing just to keep going. Get a classic defender for £10k spend £20,000 on modding it with lift kit , axle locks , MT’s and refurb the whole interior, new paint will look brand new and lots of lovely off road stuff and will monster that new one and look uber cool while doing it and for half the price ,

No doubt that it is a Land Rover, no doubt that it is better than the old DEFENDER and in all respects, and I doubt that there is a 4x4 that is better than this, but, never land Rover should have called this model DEFENDER, this is my opinion! This car with 18 rims and 33 tires all terrain or MUD, is an authentic GOAT! And I don't say it because they told me, I say it because I tried it with mud, climbing wet stone, only sand was missing... And yes, at the same time were old defender, discovery, toyotas land cruiser, nissan patrol and even mercedes G! And, everyone was embarrassed(even me!)This small Land Rover, passed the tests, with top marks! But they should never have called him DEFENDER... Or maybe in time I'll change my mind. On the other hand, when land Rover appeared with the first DEFENDER, many complained! I'm Land Rover! And, forever...
