RWD RC Drift Gyros - they are very important parts of a RWD drift build.
There are really good ones out there from ReveD, Futaba, and Yokomo - but folks rarely want to pay the $80-100+ required to get one.
Enter this Power Hobby G2 gyro - is it good enough to compete with those gyros, but at a fraction of the cost??? I put it to the test to find out!

Hey Troy, what about a receiver with a built in gyro like a dumbo x6fg. Do those work for drifting??
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
They do NOT. I have tested those extensively. Those, like TSM from Traxxas and AVC from Slektrum are both there to help keep you straight, not to help catch a drift. Different!

Strange question, the gyro in this video doesn’t match the pictures of the gyro in the online store. The mod button is replaced with 2 dip switches. The other strange thing is that the online store pictures look almost identical to the AGFRC gyro. I’m honestly wondering if these 2 gyros are now the same internally but with different markings on the case. Has anyone else noticed this or has anyone purchased either of these recently?
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
That is odd!! I'm surprised they didn't change the name if they updated it. 100% would not be surprised if it shared internals with another gyro.

This gyro only works laid down. You will need to re-orient the gyro.

Hey, I'm drifting on eva (foam) surface. What would you recommend for lowest grip tires
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
As hard as you can possibly get. That is a very high-traction surface. Look at the DS Racing tire lineup. They make some rather hard tires. They provide a chart so you can see the difference. You may also need to add rear camber to reduce your total contact patch.

hey guys! just got an mst fxx off of msrketplace and noticed it has traxxas TQi reciever with TSM and not a proper drift gyro. Should I invest in a cheapish gyro with what money i have left to spend on rc stuff or wait until i can get spend a bit more and maybe get a futaba or yokomo gyro? also will i be able to run a gyro with the tqi or will i need a new receiver as well? any other general recommendations for a newcomer would be great, thanks for reading !
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
Yes, you need a good drift gyro. Please wait until you have theoney for a Futaba or ReveD. Yes, you will need to replace the Traxxas radio system. Even if you do get the TSM turned all the way off, the Traxxas radio does not have a way to control a gyro.

@@RoadsideRC got a futaba gyd450! trying to control it with the flysky GT5 but it looks like maybe it cant control it either? cant find where to set the gain
@RoadsideRC
@RoadsideRC Жыл бұрын
@@wavtype Correct - the GT5 is not ideal for drifting. It really doesn't have a discrete control channel for it. Multiple local folks have tried to use them. Ended up running the gyro through channel 5/6 where you have those dials on the top of the controller. Kind of worms, but not ideal.

Troy, it’s weird that this video has come out a day after I did a shakedown with my converted TT-02 drifter. It’s good having a 10.5T motor and everything and it does work. The problem is… I’m at a point where I don’t think I want to invest any more money into it because I’ve found that my gyro, a Yeah Racing Hackslider… isn’t very good. Of course it’s based off of the old Power Hobby internals with no suppression or EPA but while I’ve dialed in my settings the way I like, my gyro flat out sucks. So before I throw away even more money in new parts, I’m at a point where I can get either an MST RMX 2.0 ATR with all the “basic” electronics or a 3Racing D5MR V1 and buy the electronics later. Don’t know yet. My TT-02 is fun but yeah, kinda hurts when you see MST’s and Yokomo’s blasting around on track with better control than your own. Anyway, love the videos and I’m glad someone is doing the community a favor in giving sound consumer advice.
@RoadsideRC

Thanks for the kind words. Yes - I am not a fan of the standard Hackslider. The Hackslider mini is actually pretty good though! Whether you proceed with your Tamiya, or go a RWD kit route, you will still need to upgrade the gyro either way. Might as well start planning for it.

Certainly getting the chassis direct from 3racing - look at the bundles and grab a servo at the same time. It works out about the same price as chassis only from a reseller.

I feel like a cheep drift gyro is a rilly bad idea. Haven't tried it personally but I think you could cheep out every thing else and still have a car that drives decently. an Idea for a short posibly stick a gyd450 in a 2wd basher and see how it drifts lol

I agree Alex! That is exactly why I am spending the $$$ to buy all of these cheap gyros. I want to really test them and see just how good/bad they are. I really do like your idea! I almost did that during the pandemic lockdown with a 1/10 2WD race buggy - just to see what happens!
