Great improvement on the 'new' solar system Marty. The figures do make sense as well and also take into account the older panels wouldn't be running now at full efficiency. I am jealous as that is similar to what I want here!! :)

I just found your channel and I am enjoying it. Before the Rural Electrification Act most of Boundary County didn't have power, real off grid! My Grandparents owned the Store, Motor Lodge and Dance Hall at Naples until 1947. The lighting came from a Delco System wind mill & gas engine generators that charged a battery bank. For refrigeration Grand Dad had a large underground icehouse supplied from Blue Lake, he had ice well into October. My father and his two brothers pumped (gravity fed) most of the gasoline for customers.

I’m following your channel since a long time from Rotterdam, The Netherlands. I don’t have to explain to you the Dutch-Indonisian connection. Indonesian food is still more or less Dutch national food and very well appriciated in The Netherlands. So well that most house holds/families preserve their own traditional Indonisian recepies allong with in the Dutch language incorporated “malasian/ Bahasa Indonesië” words as ajam, nasi, rendang, babi pangang, sambal, goreng etc. All the best!

2 different types of panels can causes problem and lower output power, also when your panels warm up as today, because we can see you only in T-shirt so "name" or rated power slowely decrease based on decreased effectivity. PV have the best effectivity as cold as they are, but also as lower temperature outside, as lower expected sunshine. Because of this PV works perfect in spase (no atmosphere restriction and freez from space vacuum).

So the answer is keep your solar panels out of the sun. Problem solved.

interesting solar panel configuration, I noticed that the panels are mix of polycrystalline and monocrystalline solar panels, is indeed an interesting one. While both types of panels can generate solar energy, monocrystalline panels are generally considered to be more efficient than polycrystalline panels. This means they can convert a higher percentage of sunlight into electricity under the same conditions

Marty , have you ever consider a vertical wind turbine to supplement your Solar array , i’m not talking about the propeller type , I was thinking about the fin type turbines , I would put them on a three legged platform that was maybe 4 to 6 feet off the ground, so that the snow could not inhibit the movement of the turbine , turbines work 24 / 7 as long as there is wind 15 to 20 miles an hour or more to generate electricity .. they work day or night , rain or snow don’t seem to bother them ..

Thanks Martin, great series. Do you have numbers for your worse 3 months of the year? i am trying to size an array, in my location, to provide a minimum during winter. like you i dont want to be running a generator every day, although obviously, when needs must. My demands will be less than yours, i just wanted a ballpark, for example im going with i need 3x the rated max PV to maintain during winter. Of course i will be over producing between March and Sept, but i am ok with that. Anyway, your place is looking great, best of luck, Keith
