Jack has the best forehand passing shot in pickleball already

I'm really excited to watch Jack Sock play and see how he changes singles pickleball play. I watched him as a tennis player as well. Its really great to see his point construction lean to his tennis. He has pinpoint accuracy on his forehand because his forehand technique is so good. He takes big risks and sometimes hits the net or overhits but that will improve over time. And his movement is fantastic. I suspect in the next couple of years singles strategy will change dramatically because of Jack in the use of inside out forehands, aggressive baseline play instead of serve and volley, and tennis style point construction. All the changes that happened throughout the years in tennis is being accelerated in pickleball. The most obvious change will be the prioritizing of hitting passing shots from the baseline over kitchen play. Well see if im correct. :) Great Game!

In most sports, you thoroughly expect the #3 to be in control of the match, where their play dictates the result of points. Sock is so clearly the more capable hitter that it's the opposite. He's entirely in control and it's whether he makes his shots or not that wins or loses the match.

I wonder if pretty soon return-and-volley in singles is going to go the way of serve-and-volley in Tennis. Tyson lost so many points hitting a so-so return up the middle and then watching the ball fly past him as he ran in. I'm sure Tyson could have been doing something different on his returns (returning to the forehand corner worked okay, chipping down the middle didn't work at all), but the point is you can't come in behind any old return. It has to be a good one, especially against someone like Sock.

Not sure. There were great big forehands in pro tennis well before the current more baseline oriented era, but then poly strings came along and other racket advancements which allow for incredible defense and swinging harder and keeping the ball in. I think if pickle ball paddles remain essentially the same it’s harder to rip as consistently from the baseline without going in to win points as compared to tennis. Still the sport is relatively young and will be interesting to see how it evolves as high level players push each other to try new styles and tactics

@@TimelyAdventure I don't think Pickleball will ever turn into a baseline-to-baseline game the way Tennis has. It's far easier to win a point from the net, and players should still be trying to move forward. But the server doesn't move forward after every third. They have to earn net position by hitting a non-attackable ball. I think the return game will be the same pretty soon. You can't charge the net behind every return, you have to pick the right ball to come in on. Look at the two points in a row at 30:25. Jack serves, Tyson chips up the middle and runs in, inside-out forehand winner. Then Jack serves, Tyson chips up the middle and runs in, cross-court forehand winner. Tyson didn't have a prayer of getting to either ball. The exact same thing happens at 32:22. Tyson is completely out of the point as soon as he runs in behind a bad return. All he can do is hope that Jack misses, and he didn't miss very many.

i think this is true for most racquet sports. i grew up playing tennis and ping pong, and i feel like the tennis translates well to racquetball, squash, pickleball, and even badminton, but not necessarily the other way around. Like if i just played one of those I'd probably not be great at tennis. Tennis will always be the GOAT racquet sport but that doesn't make pickleball and less fun to play, i still play tennis too :) @@Jaydee71172

New to watching pickle ball games at such a high level so take what I say with a grain of salt and I was hoping for Tyson McGuffin to win this match coming in to this video but he got absolutely crushed by Jack Sock! The thing that caught my attention the most was the fact that it seemed like Tyson kept lobbing the ball back to Jack and set him up to smash it almost every time. I would expect a player at Tyson's level to pick up on that but it didn't seem to make any adjustments, which was odd to me. Second, idk why but it seemed like Tyson kept doubting Jack's balls going in almost every other point haha like stop doubting, they're all dropping dude! Plan on it staying in and smack it back but it just seemed like he wouldn't try and just let them all go and Jack just kept dropping dimes. My two sense tell me that Tyson just wasn't used to his style of play and expected little pickle ball dinks. I wanted Tyson to win this match but props to Jack for making Tyson pay for not making any adjustments.

Tyson had no chance playing Socks game. Sock dictated games 1 and 3 with his serve + heavy forehand. Tyson won game 2 with more cat and mouse which he’s excellent at but Sock has too much firepower. If Sock can improve his short game he will start winning a lot of big tournaments. Best forehand in pickleball and it’s not close

Unfortunately, line calls are done by the players. A computerized system is too pricey for a sport like this in its infancy. The cameras suck too. 4k should be a thing but atleast HD 60fps. This video looks like it's from the early 2000s.

@@cd2_ Part of the problem is the plastic ball doesnt compress like a tennis ball so a close ball is more than likely out (compared to a tennis ball on the same spot) since a small portion of the ball actually touches the ground. But yea, replays in this sport, atleast by this production crew, suck hard. We're talking ~30 fps on a ball moving well over 50mph so when they do replays off a challenge, there are huge gaps from 1 frame to the next. The PB community jokes about it all the time.

@dandolinsky7535 3 ай бұрын
Your observation is correct about the ball having an upward arc. However although I am not totally clear on this rule you have to release the ball palm down and make contact no higher than your waist. This still allows you to lift then drop the ball giving it a split millisecond where the ball actually sits still as it transitions from up to down. Plus McGuffins palm looks like it is a bit sideways. Hope I am making sense.
