The one thing I consistently reproach Dr. Abiy and abhor about him is his tendency to use guramayle language unnecessarily. As leader of a nation, he should be aware that he is corroding the culture, which also needs to be preserved and kept pristine as much as possible. He has a stellar vision and imagination. But his awareness does not extend to cultural preservation, in which language is a primary focus. Many of the English words he peppered his speech with have local equivalents. There was nothing technical about the content of his speech. I am afraid it reflects poorly on him. Everyone, whatever your languages, must strive to speak unadulterated language. As Dr. Samuel Johnson, the author of RasSelas reminded us on a different occasion some 250 years ago, "Languages are the pedigree of nations". I hope he gets this message.
