Thank you for reminding me of this game. Started a new game today. Went real smooth until i decided to fire a crucible went on a small journey to find copper and in the meantime the fire from the pit spread, burnt a nearby forest, my crops, 2 peat sources and since i also play without a map i have no idea what burns down in the future. yay

OMG!! 😭🤣 Yeah, fire is a real thing in the game. You can also hit Drifters with torches and they'll catch on fire for a small bit of damage.

that's why I always search for a shallow cave or make a little hollow in the soil to put my pit kilns in early on. That and protection from rain, which can put them out.

I had to delete a save once because of fire. It was a very dense redwood area and all the things burning for days on end made the game come to a 5fps crawl.

Lime making it through the Paleolithic to the Mesolithic with the advent of pottery is truly a sight to behold. :D The stone age has always been a fascinating period for me so Vintage Story and it's great attention to detail pleases me immeasurably. :3

Hey lime, I have 2 tips: 1#: you can use peat as a substitute for fire wood and it shaves off a few hours. 2#: the 1.19 update allows you to light torches by hand out of any fire source(lit firepit, forge, pitkiln etc.) just do it like you were using the torch to light something on fire. (Not sure how it works with stacks of torches) Also you can light torches with a fire starter.

Great progress on this episode! The mood shift when you saw the wolf was hilarious 🤣 One strategy I've employed for navigating without a map in VS is to use packed dirt pillars in easily seen locations, such as hilltops or open plains, _just_ on the edge of render distance. To keep it resource efficient I'd make them five blocks tall, but ALSO put about two additional blocks on the top pointing back home. As a more aesthetically pleasing option, I'd sometimes plant trees in key locations, too. They take a little while to grow, but I know if I see a lone pine tree on a ridge that I'm going the right way.

Once you get a couple of fat lamps, you can use cobblestone to make a sort of beacon by placing light colored wood or light colored cobblestone above the fat lamp and it will light it up at night making it easier to see when it starts getting dark. I've used that trick before and you can see it pretty far off.
@Texotic_
@Texotic_ 5 ай бұрын
@@Sarafimm2 A little bit more resource intensive between clay, pit kiln materials, and the fat itself, but VERY clever idea indeed! I never would've thought of that.

Just a heads up, I think it's maybe the Wildcraft trees mod but there's a mod that adds pine nuts and while I love it because it makes the world more realistic for a singular person, they come into inventory as pinecones that last YEARS in storage and then after breaking them open, they carry for over a season without storage with a satiety of 100 so you can easily stack them and only them for winter and never run out

Just a heads up, if you have the time and dexterity, it's technically possible to create a Minecraft-style bunker using slabs to cover openings to create an opening you can chuck disposable flint spears out of without allowing a wolf/bear to hit you as long as you keep yourself at least a half block away from the opening. It's not nearly as effective on fleeing targets as a nerdpole, but it DOES allow for the classic aesthetic of making points around the main base to take cover is, especially in standard where a single noght without defense can mean getting pelted by rocks from drifter to death.

NGL, I have a bronze spear and I STILL pog when I get a double-tap on a throw. I mean, that's like 20 damage in an instant! That's insane! An unarmored player can't survive that and even a flint one is practically a death sentence on hardcore, so it doesn't matter if it's a fox, a goat, a bear, a wolf, a panther, or an Eldritch abomination, I am always pumped to get the two-hit toss

Definitely load up the horses only mod because it adds a bunch of realistic wildlife species that also (while buggy and don't follow "Stay" commands so you have to dig a hole to keep them in) MASSIVELY improves both travel time and carrying capacity in a realistic way. I figure since it's not lore-breaking for the run and it's fairly simple to feed a horse/donkey grass, it's a simple but effective way to lessen the overall strain of the fact that a singluar player needs A LOT more nutrients than an average proto-human would require by the game's mechanics. I'm only in August myself, so only a few months out from spawning, and I have bronze lamallar armor, full bronze tools, a farm on terra preta with more to cycle as they become crappy, and just today I found a DEEP lake that has not just gold, not just silver, not just TITANIUM, but ALL THREE VISIBLE FROM SWIMMING. And seriously, being able to take a honse from my base to a thousand blocks out in seconds makes traveling actually viable AND it doesn't require YOU specifically to spend thousands of calories moving singular digits of blocks per second.

@physicsunderstander4958
@physicsunderstander4958 5 ай бұрын
The knapping system is pretty easy to learn. You just select the item you want to knap and it'll provide you with a template like what you see in the video. Then you just need to knock out all the voxels around the finished item and that's that. It won't let you break voxels that are inside the template either so you can't really mess up. And there's an ingame handbook with all the crafting recipes as well as detailed guides on how to do stuff like pit kilns, knapping, smithing, and basically everything else in the game too.
