Raising 20 Heads of Cattle In 10,000sqm Lot
As the country faces challenges in the production of poultry and hogs with the threats of Bird Flu and the African Swine Fever, focus should now be given to raising Cattle, Goats and Sheep in paddocks or confined areas.
Outstanding Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) Arnel Corpuz who managed a 50,000-head Wagyu Feedlot in Australia for 11 years, shares with prospective farmers, including his fellow former OFWs, useful information on the raising of 20-heads of Cattle in just one hectare of land.
The Cattle, actually, will be confined in just 100-square meters while the remaining 9,900 square meters could be planted with Corn, Sorghum or Napier for Silage-Making.
It is estimated that the paddocks structure could cost P500,000, the 20 heads of cattle for fattening could entail P800,000 and other expenses P200,000.
This means that with an initial investment of P1.5-M, a returning OFW or even a young farmer could start a Backyard Cattle Raising which could earn between P100,000 to P200,000 every 100 days.
