FFXIV or FF14 has a great UI interface that you can adjust and change the hudlayout out however you see fit. You can adjust the FFXIV hotbars and FFXIV crosshotbar which is for the controller or you can create a menu with FFXIV macros.

One HUD layout trick for keyboard and mouse that might be handy for the OCD types that wasn't mentioned in the video, nor can I immediately find in the comments: If you hold shift while moving a UI element, you can grid-lock it so if you have issues getting something placed JUST right or lining it up with other elements, you can use that to better line things up.

Im new to your channel. Started dabbling with using controller yesterday and have been playing for over 2 years with KB/M. You popped up when I searched "FFXIV controller guide" and I'm glad you did! I know a lot of people recommend turning off inventory grid, but it does give some very useful information besides how much space you have left. Any white dots are 100% spiritbonded gear. So, that tells you that you need to actually extract the materia. This is especially important when you're gathering or crafting because it's easy to miss the notification. During Ishgard Restoration rankings gathering I was spiritbonding pretty quick. It will also show if you have any broken gear as a red dot (if I remember correctly). There is some very good reasons for people who can't raise to look at the alliance list. It will let you know if there's anyone who can rez in another alliance. If everybody who can rez is dead and there's still a fair bit left on the boss, it's much better to just wipe if nobody can rez.

Hey Stefan, I like the idea of a video on how to manage your inventory space, especially as a free trial player since I cannot access retainers and constantly have things that I don’t know will be useful or not in the future.

Depending on your hoarder level even the two free retainers wont help. I only have two crafter jobs I actively use currently and even then inventory space gets iffy. Add to that that retainers also decide how much I can try to sell to other players at any given time to get rid of some of the items from my inventory without literally burning tens of thousands of Gil in some cases by throwing it to the NPC vendor. I still manage, but again, I use two crafter and two gatherer jobs and not all of them - yet.

@@BunBossFFXIV Oh yeah, I just have to be in a specific mood to level them (80 weaver, 67 goldsmith, 74 botanist and 60-something miner) and currently I'm working on finishing the MSQ to get access to all the things and vendors and such.

chocobo saddlebags are usually first chance to store stuff outside of your "on character" inventory, so use them !

Very helpful. I tend to play with a mix of mouse and controller since I find it easier, I didn't know how to change the menu sizes with the controller, that its really helpful. I find, coming from single player games puting the health of them monsters near the top to be super helpful, or just arranging the screen to mimic the games you are most used to playing.

This was really useful - thank you. I was a bit flummoxed that i didn't have the item and action elements, but I found the solution on Reddit: The item and action help windows won't appear in the HUD layout if you have them set to appear "next to cursor" under Character Configuration > UI Settings > General, in the Help section. They'll only appear there if the Position option is set to "fixed". Once I did this, I was able to see them and move them around in the HUD settings.

I had no idea about the second crossbar I had it set up so that my second crossbar was all my utility skills buffs and debuffs and had a 4x4 hot bar with all the skills of my second crossbar on it right next to crossbar so I could see the timers THANK YOU SO MUCH

I'm not new, however wasn't happy with my setup, this works much better, thank you. By the way, for the "real OCD kind" - if you've selected a window in the HUD layout you can hold ALT + press Num Keys 4, 6, 8 and 2 to adjust every part pixel for pixel, for when you really need to get that bar pixel perfect, haha.

Something I tried out on controller was overlap the cross and wxhb hot bars and adjust the transparency to make them show only when holding the trigger.

Awesome video! I recently locked my HUD bar 1 as 2.. so I had two hud bars on HUD 2.. I thought something in ny pc was messing my game up as I couldnt play for a few days.. well the issue was the number next to HUD bar 1.. it can be turned up or down.. this problem took me 3 days to work out and it's so simple i feel like an idiot now.

Clean UI can help you enjoy the game better, and good HUD layout can improve your gameplay. When everything is in the right place, easy to remember, not too far from each other, you don't have you turn you eyes around or slide your mouse from side to side. You can stay focus in dungeon. Recommend new players to do this first. It's going to take some time and a few months pass you might find yourself still change it again and again just to make the most use of it.

I move the EXP bar off to the side underneath the chatbox, since that's not something I need to keep track of in combat and it frees up more vertical space for actual important stuff. I also have enfeeblements centered and enlarged right above my health so that if I get a debuff I'm immediately aware of it.

I don’t display the wxhb, I only use that for stuff you use often but not in combat. Controller players can use the mouse/keyboard hotbars to show skills that are on the hold LthenR options,

You explain well and it was pretty easy to follow along for keyboard and mouse.Hey, can you help with something? I'll put my skills on my hotbar and click the lock icon. I change to a different weapon or a crafting implement. I sort out that hotbar with the skills in the slots I want them. I click the lock. But when I come back to my original weapon my hotbars skills are moved around. What am I doing wrong? :)

I am not quite sure. Most of the times you keep unlocked so then you are able to move things around and rarely need to lock them. It applies to all jobs when you lock or unlock the hot bar. So when you unlock and relock it may reset the other job but again I am not not quite sure the reason for locking the hot bar? Maybe elaborate a little more and I can try and help! 💜

Thanks for the information! As a new player on Xbox I found the default hud layout really overwhelming. Just curious as well, but is it possible to change the size and location of the chat box? I couldn’t seem to find that option in the UI settings

Almost all UI tips videos are mouse/keyboard only, and I see no complaints. You use controller and I see complaints. As a fellow controller pc user, thanks! There are so many other guides out there if you need a keyboard one, just search ffxiv clean UI or something

im having a problem with the hudlayout setting, i cant seem to be able to move some stuff like the server info into the very corner or to the edge of the layout. But im allowed to move the minimap and partylist to each of the corners. also on ps4

Trying switching your view of it. There should be a system, hot bar, duty etc when your in the hudlayout that will switch what you can move around

haha oh no, when you are in the hudlayout, and go to target hp, there will be a setting cog, to which it will then open a mini menu. If you are having trouble, join the discord so I can screen shot it for you and show you :D

Just a question and I wouldn't ask this if only I had access to the game (on maintenance lol): Say if you target a certain enemy/npc/object/player or anything that goes to the target bar, is it possible to remove their names right above their character once targeted so I can just view their names on the target bar? Since I'm following the target bar placement which is on the corner of your character, it kind of overlaps Edit: reference 14:03

So I know this is an old video, but I hope I somebody sees this comment by chance. I followed these instructions as well as the one on controller configuaration, but there are still some differnces that I don't know how to fix. First, my top cross hotbars are visible but blank,and although I've gone over this vid a second time, I can find what I did wrong,. There in lthis video there is a field on the top right that isn't displaying. Any help is appreciated.

Can you remove other party/player buffs/debuffs on self and target? I want to see my own stuff only tbh and a healers HoT on me is a distraction.

I believe you can adjust buffs you see in the hudlayout under status info(self) and status info(target). You can separate them out and turn off and on which ones you want to see.

I almost gave up cause on this with ps5 cause the UI is so unfriendly it turns me off the game a bit that the games ui is so messy and hard to navigate

Why do you turn off the names of the NPC Unengaged and Engaged Enemies? Does this not make travelling through hostile areas more risky and also mean you may not pick up on important adds (such as Temple Bees in Qarn)?

Not really, cuz you rarely engage real world enemies often or just keep running through them to get to the main story. Plus if it’s your first character, you level up quite fast. As far as for the hunting log, which I’m guessing is the important enemies they have like a gold lined indicator above them even without their names so you don’t miss out on them

FFXIV is amazing in 21:9 with a widescreen monitor. The UI is non-existent in that mode

how do i move the job gauge? I cant find it anywhere under hud display

It is usually at the bottom, but the name is specific to the job I think? It definitely is in the hud layout, click on the drop down box and scroll through, or you can click on the job gauge on the screen and it will jump to it in the drop down list

Thanks for the layout bro, I’m a returning player and really needed this, but I have a problem. my default hot bar 8 completely went blank for like sprint, emotes, return.. etc any idea why?

If you changed it from being shared to not share or vise versus under the settings it resets the bar

@@BunBossFFXIV hmmm 🤔 I’ll take a look, although I have a lvl 2 character everything is normal on there but my lvl 65 every hotbar was completely blank. last time I played was on ps4 then I switched to PS5 and everything reset.

My eyesight is not the best and when I'm playing I usually do it from a bit of a distance away, so I end up making the ui way to big sometimes all si that I can even read it

Heey Stefan, amazing job on videos once more, but i need help. Im playing white mage and im having now problems with tracking progress bar of target/boss. I did place it 200% but the problem is that usually im not targeting the boss cuz im healing party members, so i did miss casts on Chimera in cutters cry, and ofc we did wipe few times. Can you sugest me something or someone else? 😀

So there is actually a built in system that helps with this that is kinda hard to explain here. But essentially if you hard target the boss by double clicking them, your cursor will be in them. If you click your party member once, it will soft target them and once you heal them it will automatically re target the boss for you. Also to give you piece of mind, that particular dungeon is very difficult for newer players because of the mechanics. If anyone of your party was new even one, it’s not uncommon to wipe. The party should avoid being hit at all cost and that dungeon particularly healers need to Esuna the paralysis that is placed on the players. All this being said, you might have been healing just fine and the mechanics might have been the culprit.

Did whatch your UI guide (as manny others as well) :) so need to set up that as well and and i think i will be guchi 😁

Hey Stefan, watched the and was trying to do the same placement but some of the things won't go all the way to the very top, side, no the bottom of the screen like there are invisible walls or something do you know what that is and how to fix it?

What specifically are you trying to move? The only reason I ask if its the like the status info, enfeeblement or other things then you can adjust how the layout is as left justified or right justified which means how the info will be presented rather in a rectangle or square (this makes more sense when your in the hudlayout messing with it). IF its like the map or party list or something like that it should go all the way to the corners. There might be some small space depending on the ui setup. You can see what you are using under the system configuration - Display. You can adjust how large and small your display is depending on your monitor. So I have a 32 inch monitor so I adjust the display to be bigger to fit it, rather then having the standard display as it will look really small.

@@BunBossFFXIV i'm using a 42 inch flat screen TV and what i have trouble moving is the Chat, Limit gauge, Duty list, Server info, Gil, Notices, Main menu, Exp bar. Like it's just a few things that doesn't let me move it to the very edge of the screen but it's it is being block by something

@@dragongodslayer_dk1924 hmmmm well chat you wouldnt move in the hud layout. You can just drag and drop. Because you have a bigger screen, I think there just might be a safety zone unlike monitors or tvs that are smaller. ITs probably an eternal safety zone that you cant go pass. I have never tried it on anything bigger then a 32 inch.

@@dragongodslayer_dk1924 Yea the chat can move from just the regular screen. It was actually not obvious that you could do it. And you can adjust it by the top right little tab and make it bigger or smaller. But you can still put it in the corner but maybe not as tight as you would want it since your on a much bigger screen. Maybe someone will jump in and share there experience and enlighten us if they had done it before or experiencing the same thing

Pc or console there is small little corner top right that you can click and drag. You can use controller mouse pad or a mouse 🐭 on pc

Not a big fan of the placements for the health/mana bars and the target bars. I'd move the health and mana above the spell icons and the target bars above that as well. To each their own.

Well size is everything. 😝 it’s okay if it didn’t help you with your ui. It’s just meant for beginner players who stick with the clunkiness of the ui and introducing them to adjusting it to there preference eventually. 🥰

Please... is there any way to HIDE ALL QUEST ICONS OVER THE HEADS OF TARGETS? omfg soooo annoying. my entire screen is full of fuking stupid icons floating everywhere. Those enormous neon arrows... fuk them. how the can i hide this bullshit. sorry for the frustration but it is ruining my new player experience and i am on the verge of uninstalling

I would take a deep breath first for sure. There is not a way to take them off of your screen unfortunately. Once you get even a little farther into the game it will be less and less. Especially if you just started there going to be there in the main cities. But by changing the display names and other things you can make your screen cleaner. Good luck

I actually play on PC! I just play with a controller, so actually same. I love playing FFXIV on PC more the console. I mean the bigger tv is kinda cool with the ps5 so it looks really nice but way more capabilities on the pc.
