Great info! I've built quite strong grip strength using COC Grippers and also battled tendonitis. I speak from experience and can say make SURE you take the advice of a complete exercise (grip and extension) program. Iron Mind has a whole line of products. Especially the Expand-Your-Hand Bands. They are the other half of a COC Gripper program. Also, a budget friendly alternative to the Sidewinder is the Theraband FlexBar.

Charlie Perez, This is by far the best video I have watched on this topic! Thank you very much for uploading it. I have the following two questions though: 1) What caliber is the pistol you are shooting in this video? 2) How much grip strength, do you think, would be needed if this was a .44 magnum revolver? Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to answer my questions.

1 - I am shooting 40 Caliber Major Power Factor ammo in this video. 2 - How much grip strength for a .44 magnum revolver? That is a great question which I don't know the answer to since I don't shoot that caliber or gun. That being said, having exceptional grip strength will never be a determent when shooting a pistol.

@@BigPandaPerformance, Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. Again, best discussion on this topic on KZfaq I have ever encountered! However, what I do not understand (and I do not expect you to waste your precious time on a reply to this point) is why physicists cannot devise an experiment that would show an objective relation between recoil and grip strength, with robotic arms, for example; particularly given the amount of money that flows in the firearms industry.

@@JohnSmith-qy3nv The challenge with using robotics to determine minimum grip strength per gun/caliber is that an artificial contraption will always be missing the "rubber band" flexible scenario that exists within a humans hands, wrists, forearms, elbows, etc. Basically all of the Bones, Joints, Tendons and Muscles will always have a certain amount of "Springy" give to them. That combined with replicating the exact same Pounds of force and Friction on the gun would be very complicated to replicate. You would basically need some kind of measurement method to determine a person's "Springiness" along with their grip strength and friction. Its much easier to tackle this situation from the opposite direction. Basically put, if you want to maximize your recoil management it requires optimizing your grip strength, mechanics in gripping the gun and friction against the gun. Training those items to your maximum ability will be rewarded. A good correlation example is looking at similar sports which exceptional Grip Strength is required. A professional Rock Climber for example. They are not limiting their Grip Strength training to "Good Enough". They are always working to improve their grip strength in both maximum pressure and endurance scenarios. Their training to maximize their grip strength NEVER stops. The same should hold true for competitive shooters. What I find more common than not with Shooters, is that they think gun or ammo tuning to reduce recoil is the primary solution to solving the recoil management challenge. That is part of the process, but its all founded upon building solid grip strength as a foundation. For whatever reason shooters avoid training their grip strength like the plague. I assume that is because Buying stuff to help manage the recoil is much easier than working at building their grip strength on a daily basis. There is no replacement for embracing the suck and training your grip strength regularly. The same time I spent typing this reply could have just as easily been invested in training my grip strength. Its all about making it a priority and putting in the commitment to do it.

@@BigPandaPerformance, Thank you very much for taking the time to comment on my point. I did not know that the function of the human tendons and connective tissues was so difficult to simulate. Maybe somebody will write a thesis on this one day.

Just bought the grip test stuff. I am surprisingly weak. Only manage to max out 44lbs strong hand. Even less with the weak hand

You've got a very strong grip. I'm a grip specialist and got 162lb with the pistol grip position. I can manage 260lb** with all fingers using a Jamar dyno since these go up to 200lb. Can you get the error message with all fingers? I've never shot a gun before, maybe from the years of you practicing this movement holding on to the grip with such force had increased your middle ring and pinky.

Just got 168lb. Maybe with a bit of practice I can move up another 10lbs in the next few months. Definitely reminded me to work on my ring and pinky finger a bit more.

I can max out (ERROR) the Camery grip dyno (200lbs+) if I use all four fingers and a straight wrist on either hand. I need to see if I can find a professional grade grip dyno to see what my maximum grip strength is. I can close a #3 Captains of Crush gripper (280lb rating) with my strong hand and almost close it with my support hand.

Awesome info. I bought your book too. Lots of great info. Any advice for your second shot going low and left when shooting targets quickly. Say less than a .25 split? 1st shot is perfect in the A zone and then 2nd shot is low and left. Guessing I’m diving the gun with my arms or right hand but having a hard time correcting it. Thank you!
@BigPandaPerformance
@BigPandaPerformance 6 жыл бұрын
When shooters have "Low Left" displaced second shots this is usually due to mashing the trigger too hard on the second shot. When shooting fast its also common for shooters to see and aim the first shot then simply row their finger twice as fast as they can. They basically don't "See" or aim the second shot because they are Double Tapping at the target. You need to treat each shot as its own unique event so every shot is given the proper respect it deserves. Break the habit of double tapping and your second shot displacement will likely resolve itself.

That live fire demo isnt the result of your wrist tension? Do you apply the same wrist tension?
@BigPandaPerformance
@BigPandaPerformance 5 жыл бұрын
The only wrist tension I use while gripping the gun is my support and wrist being canted forward. You can have perfect wrist angles and hand placement on the gun but not have enough pounds of grip force and the gun will still muzzle flip excessively. There is no replacement for 100+ pounds per hand of gripping force on the gun. At least not when it comes to managing the recoil properly when shooting aggressively.

Charlie Perez thanks for the reply. I dont live in the US. And gun owner is very limited. When your book would be available as ebook? I am a year in IPSC and after several matches I would like to reevaluate my fundamental.

@@teddyagp7864 - I can close a CoC #3 gripper at my current grip strength. If you are just starting out with your grip strength training I would suggest getting a range of CoC grippers so that you can start off with lower weight versions then work your way up to the heavier ones. For reference, I currently use the Trainer and #1 CoC Grippers for my grip strength training. I only use the heavier ones than that to test my maximum grip strength. I would also suggest consulting a certified physical trainer on developing a safe grip strength training program that will minimize the chance of injury.

Skip all these gadgets and just train your grip strength at home. Even if you meet these so called expectations there no reason to not have a stronger grip anyway.
