Күн бұрын

Module 1 of the Networking Fundamentals course will illustrate the core of networking: How data moves through the Internet. The foundation of that is understanding the OSI model.
But this isn't about mere memorization, instead we are going to look at the underlying goals of each layer of the OSI model, and how it contributes to the over all goal of networking: Moving data between hosts.
Before watching this video, watch the first videos in the series:
Lesson 1a - Network Devices: Hosts, IP Addresses, Networks:
• Network Devices - Host...
Lesson 1b - Network Devices: Repeaters, Hubs, Switches, Routers
• Hub, Bridge, Switch, R...
This lesson is a free lesson from my new course on Networking Fundamentals. The first module of this course is meant to teach you everything you need to know to understand how packets move through a network. All the lessons for the first module will be released for free here on KZfaq:

I'm not a course creator that will simply turn on the screen recording and ramble, then call that teaching. I meticulously plan _every_ module and lesson to _maximize the learning and value_ for the student. To that end, it takes me a while to put together courses. If I'm going to dedicate the time, resources, and energy to putting this full course together, I need to know that there is enough interest in the full course. I'm rating that by how wide a reach this series achieves. *If you are interested in seeing the full course developed, then the best way to bring that to fruition is to spread the word about this content* . By itself it already conveys _a lot_ of value. So sharing even just the 7 lessons (13 videos) in this series will surely help whoever you share it with. Just like any popular web series, I have been binge watching your videos since yesterday. Thanks to KZfaq algorithm that I landed on your channel and immediately subscribed. The way you present the hitherto complex topics in such a lucid and comprehensible manner is mind boggling !! I mean in last 24 hours itself, just by binge watching your videos, my knowledge on networking fundamentals and the OSI model has shot up by multiple notches. It's incredible !! Not a single tutor in my career's last 10 years had explained the concepts in such an eloquent manner (that too free). Please accept my GRAND SALUTE and continue to do the awesome work !! 😇

This is the BEST explanation of the OSI model I have ever seen. So many people don't explain why it is practical to use it as a model for networking, so it's just rote memorization of weird facts that don't' have any context. Especially when you get to the upper layers. You're a very good teacher and actually made this comprehensible, and INTERESTING, and not just a bunch of facts.

What does OSI mean? You’re a GREAT instructor! Truly. If there’s one thing you could improve upon is making sure you ALWAYS introduce an acronym only after you have spoken it’s full form, and the gradually shift in your speech to the use of the acronym alone, thus teaching the acronym as you’re teaching your subject.
@PracticalNetworking
@PracticalNetworking 2 жыл бұрын
That's a fair point. I make more of an effort to introduce the words that make up the acronyms when they are more relevant (you'll see this in Lesson 6 if you continue the series). In the case of OSI... the name is somewhat arbitrary. Open Systems Interconnect -- it's simply the name of the group which was trying to establish the standard. The letters don't actually mean anything.
