Ich möchte Ihnen sagen, das dieses Erlebnis bis heute zu meinen schönsten gehört und ich Ihnen sehr dafür danke, auch dafür, das Sie Mrs. Campbell so glücklich gemacht haben.

I agree completely about the "great pianist" definition!! Barenboim himself is the one, for me, who makes me feel like I could play that music (which is the highest compliment I could think of)

These videos are quickly becoming among the highlights of my week. Maybe a year and a half ago, I listened to the fourteenth string quartet of Beethoven and since then it has remained my favorite work of art and my favorite work of music. No other piece engenders humanity as a whole as this does; no other ventures into the deepest crevices of sorrow and beauty at once as this does; no other represents life itself as this does! I believe this piece to be the pinnacle of the collective creative efforts of men. I would love a video on your opinion of this work as well as one in which you tell us about your own favorite work of music. Thank you for these videos.

Mr. Barenboim, Thank you for all your great videos. A while ago you made a video as an "Introduction to Bruckner" in which you comment on the psychology of Bruckner as being "medieval". Could you make another video commenting on that? I am relatively sure of what you mean by medieval, but would like to hear more. We in New York are all looking forward to your Bruckner Cycle next year!

I like the way Daniel approaches music in a philosophical way. This is actually quite rare, Music implies aesthetics and meaning. It seems to me that it has an existence even beyond great composers; for when composing it's never possible for mere mortals to trap entirely what they 'heard' - heard with the inner ear, that is. The thing they didn't trap also exists...it has a half-life and this is why we can sometimes imagine writing quite different versions of Mozart in our minds. So what on earth was going on when Mozart wrote K574 in an organist's guest book? It was a private thought - not music, really to be played. Played on the organ? It's like Scarlatti; and it's like the last Bach Fugue of Book 1. I think it is by no means a prestissomo Gigue - nor even a Gigue. It is more like, 'The Musical Offering' and needs an Andante con vivo tempo. If we analyze its counterpoint (I found nothing on the internet about the relationship between Mozart and Scarlatti) we will maybe see it shows signs of the fingerprints of extra-terrestial life. And if you play it on the organ, you must sustain that last C to the end.

Or even Claire du Lune by Debussy?

Cada compositor de manera diferente y a niveles distintos logra impactar a las personas con su música, ya sea por la complejidad de las sonatas, por sencillez, originalidad o por qué la esencia que transmite es hermosa e inexplicable. Seria correcto pensar que la musica de hoy en día por ejemplo la música pop que hace uso de letras más que de instrumentación logra menor mente un impacto en el alma de las personas? Diria que la música clásica maravillosamente es la única que por sus complejas estructuras y enlaces transmiten de forma mas clara un mensaje, que alcanza la frecuencia adecuada para acariciar nuestros sentimientos? Que es la única que nos invita a abrirnos mentalmente para entender sus misterios?
