Here's how to talk about the past in Spanish using the preterite (or preterit) tense. I'll give you some essential tools so you can start speaking with confidence right away!

MINI COURSES: • Spanish With Paul Mini...
MONDAY LESSON SERIES: • Monday's Spanish Lesso...
Hello everyone,
Talking about the "past" in Spanish is a vast topic, by far more complicated that talking about the present or the future.
In today's lesson I'll give you a peak inside just how to do it, armed with some essential verbs and phrases to really get you going!
I'm focusing on just one aspect of the past here known as the preterite (or preterit) in grammar... however, as I've mentioned there are a myriad of ways you can express the past in any language, not just one. The truth is it requires a lot of study and practice.
Hopefully this lesson will inspire you keep going.
Enjoy and see you next Monday,
Paul

I know it might sound a little weird. As a Native Spanish Speaker my English is sky rocketing because finally I'm getting the right equivalent sentences in English to the sentences used in Spanish. Awesome and Thanks a lot.

I love that this incorporated the huge amount of dormant vocab I have learned over the years in order to chain words together in long, practical sentences. I called my family back home just to frighten them by ripping through long sentences in Spanish and feigning an ESL accent when reverting to Ingles.

Yes, "desafortunadamente" is a nightmare of a word. I don't know if this works in Mexico, but here in Spain, we say "por desgracia."

Comparing with french version it’s nothing. I would say that the pronunciation is a bit easier than the writing. I think even most of french people make a mistake writing this word, “malheureusement” 😁 but it’s one of my favorite words tho

Since I have been having intensive lessons for the last few weeks I am amazed at how much I learned within that 30 mins. Using para in place of "in order to" is a real eye opener and makes a lot of sense. Also because you didn't use overly complicated grammatical explanations everything made sense within the context of the exercises and finally I got a clearer understanding of the direct object pronouns. Thank you, I am looking for the link to the main course now.

If you like this style of learning and you think it will work for you, I can recommend his course as I have completed it. It gave me the best foothold on spanish that I could get before I moved to Spain and I was able to use his methods of remembering the correct grammar to enable myself to build on my vocabulary and put it all in to proper use. He is still adding and improving the course but now is a really good time to enrol. Very good value for money.

I am told I speak it well by native speakers but since need to work on my my vb tenses. This helps bc you speak slowly #2 give simple explanations # give lots of realistic simple sentences thx!!

This way of learning is more efficient and engaging that learning in school. Because in school I would tend to forget what I learned in other tenses when it came to preteritte anx imperfect then I would forget them when we move to something else. But I am good at vocabulary. I needed up with forming sentences so thank you so much
