-The Great Gig In The Sky.... Death. This is the emotional ride, anger, denial, acceptance, no words needed just raw emotion.

nothing can top the original studio version, but this comes close and is cool for other reasons. David not only giving the backing singers their moment in the spotlight, but him turning to watch and listen in such a respectful and appreciative way. I love watching this.

Some people say that this is supposed to represent in raw emotion the transitions into leaving life, the stages of dying, starting with denial, anger, fear, resistance and finally acceptance, and some say it isn't, the original recording on the album was done by one Lady Claire Torrie, she did it pretty much in one take when recorded, these Ladies do a fine job with this concert version too, Thanks for sharing and looking forward to hearing what you decide to do next, God Bless.

When you´re the greatest band in the world, you´ve got the best background singers. Sam Brown (the blonde) was a well known singer in the 80ies (had a hit called STOP!), but also background singer for Pink Floyd, David Gilmour, Jon Lord, Deep Purple, Black, Gary Moore, George Harrison, Fish and others.

Floyd giving their backing singers their deserved time in the spotlight. On the original album version 1 lady Clair Torry ( a session singer) was called in and paid £30 she recorded all in 2.5 takes then felt she would only be repeating stuff so went home. Much later after she discovered they used her takes on the album and a little legal wrangling she got Co-writer credits and rightly so. Some prefer the album version some prefer this live version. To me they are both equally astounding. Pink Floyd’s keyboard player passed away not long ago but one of these wonderful ladies sang this track at his funeral as per his request.( if I’m missed any important details please feel free to add them )

Go and listen to the recorded version with the vocals by Clare Torry. That is the best version and she did it in the studio just on her own. It is amazing. I used to get chills listening. It is like birth and death and every emotion through a lifetime. No disrespect to the backup singers, but the original from Dark Side of the Moon is perfect.

The original version by Clare Torey was a one of a kind she did it two takes one of them things that just cannot be repeated ever but the live version from the three girls probably comes as close as you can get they did an excellent job live listen to the original off the concept album dark side of the moon 1973 and you will see why in fact as with a lot of Floyds music listen to the whole album each track enhances each other they all flow into each other like chapters in a book

Listen to the studio version. And be blown away by the original singer Clare Torry. That was recorded in 2 takes. This live version is good, but nothing compared to the original. In fact you should probably listen to the full Dark side of the moon album (1973). That will tell you all about who Pink Floyd were. (And then Animals, Meddle)

Im sure you already know that The Dark Side Of The Moon is a concept album where the message flows from one song through to the next. TIME & The Great Gig end side one, but are really 2 very different parts of the one song. Our own personal TIME ends with The Great Gig. The best version is the original with the vocals of Clare Torre, who created the vocals and melody on the spot and in one take.......dont listen to the trolls who claim it was more than one take. Unfortunately, all the current CD's and videos are digitally remastered and edited.....the latest have even removed the brilliant final notes of death completely. .............. probably considered not politically correct to hear the brilliant vocals of passing on.

The singer is Sam Brown. The song has no lyrics. It is the singers are conveying their feelings about death. This is maximum level performance of this song. Keep in mind the ladies only have one take to perform this song. Pink Floyd tries to give everyone performing at this c😂concert their moment in the spotlight.
