Lovells GCM is standard with the GVM on the new 150s 😀

Thanks Rich, welcome to the channel! Harry's build was what inspired ours to an extent, certainly for the bar! I did discover 1 advantage with Lovells over the other GVM upgrade options out there, depending on which state you live in, the GVM also increases GCM by the same amount, which for us was a great bit of news! The cameras are hard wired front and rear, so the lack of USB ports isn't impacted, but I agree, having only 1 is crazy! I also don't have room for any additional ports in the centre console as the only blank is where I put the redarc towpro controller (with good reason which I'll explain in an upcoming episode) We were very lucky that our dealer swapped the rims off a demo GXL for us, so I didn't have to spend another 2k on rims!! 19" rims offroad would be useless! Next major mod will be an air compressor, and then it's all up in the air for other mods, awning is absolutely on the cards, but waiting on our next weigh in before making any decisions. As for towing, we've been in lockdown since I got the car, so haven't towed yet, but next week's episode might just answer that question 🤔 Congrats on the VX, despite the few shortcomings with usbs etc. they are an amazing car! I loved the fortuner, but the Prado is next level, and totally deserves the landcruiser badge. So congrats again, hopefully the wait flies by, cos once you get in it, you won't want to get out!

I also have a VX due about the same time as yourself, but boy oh boy has my thinking changed since moving into the "Old Farts" age bracket, my previous 2011 ZR has a DP chip, Throttle chip, Manta S/S 3" exhaust, Safari Snorkel, Dual battery, Red Arc, Coil Spring Bags, 3T tow bar, 3"Nudge Bar, 8" Light Force, Clear View Mirrors, Crystal Pearl etc. The VX will only have minor mods such as Nudge Bar with Bar Light, Red Arc, Coil Spring Air Bags, 3T tow bar, Manta 3" S/S Exhaust, maybe Snorkel to assist the Manta and against my younger man beliefs the car will be Eclipse Black with Eclipse Black Mags but no chips of any kind, poor old Baz what has happened to me in my dotage😂

As far as the GVM upgrade goes, have a quick watch of my "this mistake cost me my car" vid, it will show how quickly we overloaded a fortuner which has 100kgs more payload (due to the 2 fuel tanks in the Prado). Obviously I say this with the usual disclaimer "don't take my word for it, I'm a bit of an idiot, get a professional to go over all the weights". But yeah, the Lovells GVM increase has been great, no issues towing, and ride day to day has been great. Good luck with your build, the VX is an awesome rig, and the '21 engine packs some serious grunt over the previous generation (same engine in my old 2018 fortuner, even in sport mode didn't get up and go like the new model, and a far lighter vehicle too!) Thanks Kerryn! I made most of the calls and prework/quotes on getting it done. Warranty terms, Toyota haven't changed anything, however the vehicle compliance plates have been updated to show the new specs. Warranty issues are complex, but to decline your warranty, toyota would have to conclusively prove that the modification was directly responsible for the fault. Even then, statutory warranties are enforceable, or the GVM manufacturer would be liable under their warranty. The main reason I went pre-rego was for national compliance (e.g. I don't need the car recertified if I move interstate and need to switch rego, or sell it in another state, the compliance is nationally recognised, post rego is a pain if you move states or sell interstate). I did have to pay LCT on the upgrade, but worth the extra tax hit in the long run. Thanks, 2 years on and still love this car! I do have the VX, and the dealer put GXL rims on, so they definitely fit it (2021 model anyway) same brakes across the line-up at that stage, not 100% sure about the Kakadu. This has the upgraded engine, so they didn't up the brake size to compensate there

I forgot to ask do you use standard air filtration? Since I am planning some dusty trips would be good to know if that "Dusting" issue I hear about is a concern or not. Cheers

I haven't upgraded the airbox... yet... no issues to date, but with a lap in the future, it's definitely a consideration

Thanks for the like :) I've had a few queries around that, the main issue would be with suspension and oversized tyres, but honestly they'd have to prove that the mod was directly responsible for the failure to avoid warranty claims. I'd recommend doing a GVM upgrade pre rego if possible (there is a dealer in Melbourne who flat out refuse to do it, but they are the odd one out, I went elsewhere when they told me lol) main issue with the upgrades is the extra weight does increase fuel consumption, but not massively (and I have a heavy right foot too). Upside of the slight tyre size increase, speedo is now bang on!! Feel free to ping me on Facebook or instagram if you want to chat too, more than happy to help

All good 👍 tjm supplied it for me, but it's not a standard TJM offering, just something the Carrum Downs store do, so I'd call around if that's not where you are getting the work done

Absolutely! We had her offroad (ish) yesterday (footage in the next vid or the one after), the bt 50 we were with found every washout a bit rough, we just floated over them! Ember and Fenix were so comfortable, they slept through it!

@@10tenadventures so I spoke to my local TJM today, they said there's really only the one set up for the Lovells kit for the Prado so there's no need to 'account' for accessories. So if you're happy with your suspension I'm keen to see mine!

Rides like a dream to be honest, we had a ball offroad, our mates BT50 was feeling every washout, we just glided over them, next vid will have some footage (not much, a bit of a laugh, "toughest track in the area, find alternate route recommended" according to the map... reality, 5 washouts and a couple of corrugations lmao!!! Will have some proper offroad stuff soon, and put the lovells GVM through a workout. But so far, no complaints

With everything on the car, I'm getting about 11l per 100kms or 1200+kms per tank... was slightly better before I put the roof rack on

With the Prado, I think its a close call, but I'll be using extended mirrors regardless, was looking at MSA, but need to do more research on how they go with the terrain cameras mounted in the mirrors on the VX, it's clip ons for the time being

Thats the one I've been eyeing off, only worry I have having seen the ARB fitting guide is that the switch and hose connector still behind the top access hatch... I have a VX, that hatch is a subwoofer... I'm not sure how much that will change compatibility?

How loud is this compressor when installed in this manner? I have a mate telling me I'll regret it especially when trying to air up in poor weather as the door needs to stay open

I can't answer that one, but looks like I'll be going an under bonnet option as can't fit the twin behind the rear plastics in the VX 😞

Hi Chris, you are correct, however there is a feature on this UHF that puts you in touch with emergency services, I'll have a video recorded soon to clarify this feature, and (following discussions with local Emergency services) hopefully a live demo. It does require the app installed on your phone, and Bluetooth connection to the UHF (no mobile signal required, just a gps ping) and you can communicate with a reserved channel in your location... it's pretty involved, but no "police radio scanner" or anything like that
