It's here! It's big and it works! This video's been a bit of a long time coming, all things considered. I had hoped to get it finished a couple weeks ago but the machine needed some TLC first.
Oh it's an exciting time. Also, in a first for me, since I finally have a machine capable of machining parts quickly enough, I'll also be releasing a version of the machining section without music, just raw machining sounds and longer to boot.
I'll be keeping the "ASMR" versions separate to the more regular videos since they're not as easy to listen to casually. The flip side is those interested in purely the machining content may also really enjoy hearing how everything responds.

I have no doubt that this channel is going to be so huge and your projects and products produced here are going to be wonderful. Also I loved the video production here, the start scene with the phone alarm and coffee making it's these nice touches that make the videos all the more enjoyable to watch. Looking forward to more!

Then you're going to love what's on the way! Now that I have a proper machine, I can do videos with the machining sounds, I'll have an "asmr" version of the cutting from this vid going up on Monday. Folks asked about this fairly often when I was at Bit-Tech, feels good to be able to deliver at last.

Looking forward to more videos coming as things shape up. My roommate and I became addicted to watching your previous stuff. While I didn't CNC anything myself, I definitely practiced water cooling on a simple build and then did a bunch higher end one for my new PC, largely because of the cool stuff I saw here!

Congrats Alex for the new machine. It's always a smile in the face to see fellow know people with new machines for their projects. Hope that it's not going to happen but buy some extra Renishaw probe styli, specially if they have available the ceramic rod ones. You will bend and break styli by fuc* ups, and a ceramic rod will act as a mechanical fuse, it will break the rod and save the probe electronics. I forgot how many I changed at customers when I was working for Mazak UK as a service engineer... Other than that waiting to see what it's going to be the first project of it.

God, cleaning up chips must be so much easier without coolant. I worked at my father's machine shop when I was younger, fabricating parts for military aircraft, and he has Mazak 3 axis and 4 axis machines as well as a Fanuc. All as beasts of machines taking up an average of 400sf or there about and standing around 12'-14' tall. He's an old.school.machinest that started in his garage on Bridgeports and then in a machine shop on a aircraft carrier, the USS Saratoga, where he was a fighter pilot. He is brilliant and can reverse engineer anything. His machining knowledge and engineering talent allows him to produce parts in 1/3 the time that his competitors. Why? High speed machine is, I guess, common now and he has always said, "take a chip". The stink from the coolant/oil permeates the shop and my wife always know when I have visited my father. I mass around there from time to time on the BP and the Mazak and this video makes me think of my years spent there and especially when he got his 4 axis. The setup of it and especially bringing it into the shop was no easy task. Your work is awesome and I truly appreciate the engineering and intelligence it takes to perform such precise work. It's amazing what these machines can do. Many years of luck....now go take a chip! Cheers!

@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 жыл бұрын
For aluminium at least it’s nice and easy, just push it all to the sides with the air gun or a brush, it’ll fall into the chip pan below. Acrylic is a bit harder, I’ll be grabbing an ionising air gun for that.

This is amazing. But a serious and honest question; how can you afford all these things!? :) As in, honestly; did you take on some seed capital, or a business loan, or what? I'm genuinely curious as I'm starting my own CNC based business.
@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 жыл бұрын
In my case it was seed capital, I’m in a rather unique and fortuitous situation in that regard. As I own all my equipment outright (no financing for things) it makes the whole venture decidedly low risk. John Saunders has some great stuff over on NYC CNC about starting your business up. He’s a bit too into all the self help/motivational crap but a lot of the business principles are pretty sound as he took his company from zero to hero the hard way.

Im not a machinist so maybe this is super obvious, but what was happening with the round ball before you started milling the pump housing? was it just calibration?
@PraetexDesign
@PraetexDesign 2 жыл бұрын
The parts where there’s a ball attached to large boom arm, along with the ball on top of a shark-fin stand were calibration. The part where the probe with the ruby tip came down to touch the aluminium was for setting the work coordinates. It comes down and then confirms incredibly precisely where the workpiece is located in the machine.

@@PraetexDesign ahhh cool! Thanks! I love watching this stuff but don't know a ton, would he sweet if once the whole workshop was set up you could give a "for dummies" video haha so less experienced people had some context for all cool shit you're gonna do! Anyway thanks for the reply and for the content! Looking forward to lots more!

@@PraetexDesign Uhm, in case of M8 not really. The only up-side is that the machine is lighter and smaller in its overall size. Work travel is the similair to most standard VMCs. Datrons really make sense with models that are after M8 - work envelope much larger.
