On July 16th, 2023, I managed to catch PDC 4-4-0 No.3 on the return trip from Grosse Isle! It's been a while since I've seen PDC in action, let alone Number 3!
No. 3 is a A2L class 4-4-0 locomotive that was built in 1882 by Dubs & Co. of Glasgow, Scotland for the Canadian Pacific Railway as No. 22. It served in various regions of canada between 1882 and 1908 before being renumbered to 133. In 1909 It was modernized at Winnipeg's Weston shops, presumably with it's current cab among other changes. In 1923, It was transfered to the City of Winnipeg Hydro Railway (currently the GWWD Rwy.) and served until around 1959. After sitting for a while, It was acquired by the Vintage Loco. Society (owners of the PDC) and was restored as a centennial celebration project around 1970.
It operates to this day with PDC on the former CN Oak Point Sub between Winnipeg and Grosse Isle, with very rare trips to Union Station downtown and down GWWD trackage for the PDC's 50th anniversary in 2019. Here's some shots of it pulling the train down the line and being put away after the day's excursion. Enjoy!
