Features: Arnie & Shirley Morris and their large Quail egg laying operation near Ardrossan, Alberta. At the time of our visit in 2012 they had nearly 12,000 birds on the farm which allowed them to ship about 250,000 eggs weekly. The egg yoke of a Quail egg is actually bigger than the whites. The shell is harder than a chicken egg shell and you have to use a serrated knife to cut them open. They also operate a hatchery and incubator on the farm.

When I was a just a boy, it was common to run across a large covey of quail here in the south. Usually in a field, they would burst from cover, and your heart would almost leap from your chest. In the spring you could hear them calling all over the place, with the unmistakable bob-white. The last covey I saw here, was more than twenty yrs ago.. and they no longer sing.

Perhaps not, but that doesn't stop them from being miserable. It's like putting a dog in a small kennel as a puppy and leaving it there it's whole life, never letting it out, never interacting with it, never giving it anything to play with. Sure, the dog's been in the cage it's entire life and doesn't know any different, but would you think it's happy living like that?

Hmmm I love quail eggs! My grandma raised quail and I remember as a little kid we would run around in the farm all day, and then she would ring a bell and all the grandkids would run inside to eat grandma's hard boiled quail eggs. We loved sitting around the table and peeling the eggs one by one. Those were the days!

These are salad bar item in restaurants although you might consume them at the main course. They are to be served boiled and peeled off. There used to be a myth these eggs were afrodisíac, again a myth. They are a great compliment just as mushrooms on one’s salad. The great thing about these eggs is that you do not need to grow them as schlock chicken farms with antibiotics and hormones , so they are supposed to be a healthy snack.

I don't know how much you know about these quail, but I released them in early fall so that they could get some flight time before winter, one day I was driving to work and I saw one fly across the road by the river, they are good flyers and the brown ones have good camouflage but they are quail that are raised for their eggs but mostly for their meat and whether I eat them or an animal eats them, makes no difference, every body has to eat I released them in early fall so they could develop the oils they need to protect themselves the elements, I kept them in a tent outside for a few days. a person I new bought a bunch of them from someone and released them in a field and went out the next day to hunt them and he could not find one bird. they are experts at concealment. enjoy.

Cool operation but I wish the adult birds could get a break off the wire... Don't look like they have a ton of space either. I mean it works, and it's economical, but a little sad.

Hyraladen T Purpose or not, That doesn’t take away any of the cruelty in this. What about slaves? They were bred to work and serve higher classed people, yet slavery is frowned upon.

Legendary_tortoise O5 cause humans aren't instinct moving creatures, everyone's special and its frowned upon because they were treated as animals and we're not like animals that only move on instincts

Very nice setup you have there, I like it... And to the hurt feelings people in the comments, get over yourselves, humans are omnivores, check your teeth structure, it's part of our nature. These and other animals are food, learn to live with it. Bags from Australia
