The Prayer of the Heart, also known as the Jesus Prayer or the Prayer of Faith, is a prayer used in the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholic traditions of Christianity.
It involves the repetition of the phrase: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me."
The prayer is typically repeated silently or aloud, with the goal of focusing the mind on Christ and cultivating a sense of inner stillness and peace.
The Prayer of the Heart is often used as a form of contemplative prayer, and is believed to be a powerful spiritual practice that can lead to a deeper sense of connection with the divine. It is also seen as a way of developing humility and compassion, of devotion, in Hinduism called Bhakti.
The Prayer of the Heart is considered to be the perpetual prayer that the Apostle Paul recommends in the New Testament.
Christ consciousness, I personally believe, is the awareness of our true nature, that is divine, and the external world is a reflection of this divinity within this awareness that is our Self.
We are God within. This prayer asks for mercy or grace. As divine grace, according to various ancient wisdom traditions, appears to be what is needed to recognise who we really are and to 'attain' God Consciousness.
