Engine 1, Engine 4, Engine 7, FD113, FD211, FD212, FD313, NUMEROUS Training Units, Ladder 6, Rescue 1, Squad 3, and Squad 7 Responded to the Reported Residential Structure Fire at 13:57 on September 27th, 2021.
B-shift crews responded to the scene of a residential structure fire with smoke coming from the edges of the garage doors. Upon their arrival, they discovered a fully involved fire in the garage. Due to the number of combustible materials, the heat and flames were extreme. Crews acted quickly to extinguish the fire and limit the spread to the rest of the house. All occupants were able to safely exit the residence, and no injuries were reported.

Here’s an A shift fire video if you would like to watch it. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e7NxhKp3tpmmd3U.html Just to answer a few frequently asked questions. 1. Broken Arrow Fire Department is a paid ISO Class 1 Department. 2. I don’t have any sort of go fund me information or any way to help the family. There was word that it’s a former firefighter. I can’t confirm or deny that. But y’all are great for wanting to help the family. 3. As for manpower, each engine and ladder have 3 personnel. Ladder 6 (the ladder on scene) had 2 riding, and one following in the brush truck. There were 3 engines and one ladder on scene. You can do the math. There were also 4 Firefighters between two ambulances that could help with fire attack.

This is why we always critique a fire incident ASAP. Starting out with the positive what we did right, and what we could've done better. For this fire I would start out with the positive Miraculously no one was injured or killed. Let's start out with full PPE with SCBA on before anyone gets near the the hot zone. Forcible entry in this case with heavy smoke puffing out the garage, you need a hoseline backup. Need to consider assigning a truck crew to vent group on the roof. Have interior group check for extension in the attic, if not done already. Keep in mind that heavy black smoke like that pumping out of the garage openning is fuel and it will eventually ignite into flames. It was good they went with a 2 1/2" hose, but too late in the game. Plus it looked as though the engineer was very slow in charging that line with water. More training is definitely needed with the stressing of full PPE including SCBAs, fireground operations, and use of saws.

Absolute shambles? How? They did a fantastic job. Garage fires are a pain in the ass to get water on quickly compared to a regular structure. Yes, looks like there was a com issue trying to get the second line charged and that delayed them a bit. Other than that, they did a good job. Great teamwork, and they knocked it out. Let's break it down A: When arriving on scene, there no visible flames, only heavy smoke coming from the garage doors. This means it's in the garage. B: Only real way to access the garage to fight a fire there is the outside door. C: Once you own that up, that's fresh O2 and it's gonna just feed, that's exactly what it did. D: No they can't just open the doors, because now what if the fire is in the ceiling? Well you just put the door in the way! Wasting time closing it to cut it off anyway. E: Again, yes charging the second line seemed to have been delayed for some reason. You can see the hose crew several times trying to signal to have it charged. F: They had the first line charged fast, and went in to see what they could do from the inside while they created access from the outside. E: Fire was knocked out in what appears to be about 20 minutes. Based on the description and the little bit of chatter in the video, sounds like something exploded inside before they arrived, and there was a lot of combustible things that just fed the fire too. So again, how was this an "absolute shambles from start to finish" as you claim?

As a fire service instructor for over 25 years it pains me to watch this video. I routinely discourage public criticism of fire ground tactics, however, I pray the leadership of this department uses this video as a n opportunity to evaluate fire ground operations from a personal safety perspective, the betterment if this department and the benefit to all of the citizens they may serve. There are so many serious errors demonstrated here not fault of the individuals you see here but a failure of leadership at the highest level. Please act now before it's too late! As for the home owner this video serves as evidence of negligence, duty owed, duty breeched, foreseeability, significant total loss property damage. Sorry brothers just had to comment.

You can see at 5:10 the fire is in the garage and is starting to be starved for oxygen, you can see how the smoke comes out, then is immediately sucked back in. Need to have at least 2 lines ready at the door, them either lift the door, it if it's stuck, have 2 guys with k12s at each end. They both make vertical cuts up, the center section falls down, opening the hole and have the 2 hose teams knock down the fire. Then check for extension and hot spots. Mop up and go home. Edit: at 5:45, whoever is in charge of maintenance, should be shot! That engine should have started in 2-3 pulls. I told him, “son this a department that doesn’t fight fires on a regular and will get someone hurt or killed. No Monday morning QB here for those that think so, 24yrs in a busy city and a Training Captain for my platoon. Why would you wrap your attack lines with velcro? Why not flake from your shoulder. Why the non-chalant attitude in getting masked up to save life and property? Not gonna comment about the garage door, too easy. Why open the roof AFTER the bulk of the fire has been knocked down? Just a few questions for the critique portion. I would defer inspections for a month and do nothing but live fire training at their million dollar facility. Jus sayin.

This is to reduce carcinogen inhalation (they also decon and doff the gear and stow it back in the cabinets on the ride to quarters and then into the laundry after each fire). Supposedly, response times are faster by waiting to Don on scene, but I haven't seen that data to confirm. Yes, it's very sad to note the non-chalance as well as the non-professionalist of the firefighters. 😤 But we all have to agree on this one, that we have to applause 👏 the way this house was built and the fantastic fireproof construction of the garage ceiling and walls. Without that, it's for sure this beautiful home will be good for demolition.

The Striker 4×4 offers “innovative fire suppression. The moment the Striker fire truck arrives it can dispense fire suppressants without having to get out of the vehicle. Im agreeng with the other comments. The lack of urgency is absolutely heartbreaking for these homeowners to watch. This was painful to watch. Responded to a fire much like this one, years ago. Everything worked in our favor. Hydrant was located just 3 houses down. Combination department and had several extra personnel at the station at receipt of alarm. Attacked fire from inside out, with immediate effective positive ventilation. Fire auto ventilated out a garage door, as aluminum panels fell away as we were attacking. Garage very crowded, as most are. That was probably the 2nd hottest fire I had been in. We quickly realized the door between living area & garage was open. Firefighter quickly entered & closed door, as we were pulling lines, and setting up for attack. Got a knock down on it, but one of the vehicles had lit up, which is a HUGE amount of BTU`s in a confined space.

Commenting a year later sometimes seems pointless, but a lot of people still watch these videos. Nearly 30 years paid part time here and the hardest thing to watch in this video for me is the compromise of firefighter safety. High volume fast black smoke, 5 or 6 firefighters standing up in it with no regard or maybe understanding on how close that smoke was to flashing, no protective line during the cuts. Enough space above a panel door to get some cooling happening before anything took place. Pencil the door or use a tic to see how hot things are on the other side. Only luck prevented serious injury or worse. There are many ways old and new to fight a fire but read the smoke wrong and you may not come home. Stay safe.

Ok. All you Monday morning quarterbacks. I’m retired from that department and discussed this fire with the captain in charge. What you can’t see from this one angle is the garage had an extension to the rear with a vehicle in it. There were various containers of gas and other flammables inside the garage along with the vehicles. He only had himself and a driver on the aerial. The first engine had a crew of 3. They had difficulty in accessing the major part of the fire in the rear. They took hand lines through the front door and to the garage. The fire never got into the house. It was confined to the part of the garage visible in this one dimensional view, and stopped in the rear ( not visible to the camera). The fire from the back was very intense but the had made entry ( again, not visible in this video). The heavy smoke pushing out after the overhead door was breached was due to the fire attack from the rear and interior of the house. They had three vehicles on fire, additionally excess containers of gas and other equipment. At the 14 minute mark the fire was decreasing and the 2.5” opened up. Could it have been done better? Maybe. Manpower shortage plus getting supply lines in took longer than average. But they kept the fire out of the house. The fire load was extreme and had the garage and addition before they arrived. Unless you were there, you’re basing your criticism on a one dimensional video of a tough fire. Considering the situation they did a pretty good job.

Holy crap!! While they had a charged line as they went into the front door of the home....they sure didn't move fast enough to quickly chase the fire down as they had the door open - allowing it to vent a bit but it also gave the fire more heat to build on. The sad part was when the entered the #2 garage..they didn't even have a charged line before removing the door - thus giving the fire perfect opportunity to build hotter and advance!! Noticed the (Not in a rush) behavior while men and equipment moved - so where do all the older wal-Mart greeters go when they retire....too the Broken Arrow Fire Dept.?? My heart goes out to the home owner and the insurance company who has to assume this big loss.

I’m wondering, if the fire was in the garage, why didn’t they cut just one spot in the garage to vent and then use positive pressure via a fan from the front door or inside the house. Then attack the fire as it vents out the garage? That’s how we were trained here in Kansas

If YOU watched the video you will see that in the 2 minutes AFTER the door is removed water is applied for about 30 seconds. Then why remove the second door before a line is ready. I put it out with a fire extinguisher, and if you didn't know, they make the smoke much worse. I put a fan in the kitchen window to draw the smoke, which it did, but police & Fire still showed up. They destroyed my house busting down the front door, soaking not just the stove but everything. Opened closets in the far bedrooms, smashed out windows, tore down drapes and rods off the walls, etc... And a snotty nasty little female cop handcuffed me to the porch rail so I could not stop them from destroying my house. Fire was out 20 minutes before they even arrived!! Then packed up and left me with a HUGE mess. Better training needed for BOTH fire & police just to deal with smoke!

Not knocking this fire department, but this just shows that practicing to fight a fire should never happen on scene. Be it a vehicle accident, or other type of incident. Definitely something to learn from here is venting, and making sure you have lines charged ready to go when you need it most. This fire wasn’t a practice run at your local burn building used for training. This house could of had a lot less damage if you move quickly, safely yes but diligently. Timing is everything, and some of the tactics used like taking the garage door as a whole, perhaps if you can get to the release you could of maybe pushed the garage door up. Kind of like going to a vehicle accident always try before you pry.

Not knocking you but you should learn the proper use of the word "have" where you keep using the word "of".

@@kevinjones6577 Venting a fire will only increase it's intensity by feeding it more oxygen. The reason the house wasn't fully engulfed is because it remained sealed until they had to gain entry. Having a line charged prior to knowing what your exact attack angle is going to be is also never a good idea, You would need about 6 guys to wrangle a charged line into position vs. 3 for an uncharged one. You wouldn't think so, but there's a tremendous amount of pressure built up in those things!

That is a good thing to think of. Of course the person I need to ask about "of" and "have" is not here. Of all the things to think of....I don't think either is wrong. Kevin Jones are you in TX ? Lol that's my husband's brothers name. Don't forget that a horse is a horse of course of course.🐴

Correct me if I'm wrong by all means, but I was of the assumption that fire fighters were meant to put OUT fires not make them bigger!

14 minutes to get a second line charged? poor tactics, opening up garage doors without charged lines ready, roof wasn't vented, nozzle man on the ladder..filling the second floor pool? The term 'Broken Arrow' means imminent destruction...

Eu fico admirado com a lerdeza desses bombeiros. Depois que queimou tudo eles abrem a água.
