Front guard mounts done. I got some new parts and also a new toy to sharpen drill bits which works very well.

At about 28 minutes you were talking about where to site your parts washer, and panned around to the back wall. I thought 'what's that rocking horse doing there?' and then I realised that it was the Velo bodywork on a trestle... 😁

One reason for the parts washer is to clean things like the shocks on the Velo. They are basically just tubes full of grease! Once my neck recovers I can start bashing metal again too.

Hi Simon You mentioned the flasher unit. I found that the mechanical units are ok when the battery is being charged but at rest slow down or even stop. The electronic unit does not suffer that problem, something else to think about! It is looking very good! Cheers John

I was going to wire it all up on the bench first to see how well it works before doing any actual wiring/loom work. I think it was in my MG I could never get the electronic one to behave so will be interesting to see how it works. I want to test with both normal and LED bulbs. LEDs are a bit of an odd area here for me. I think normally you have to prove the holders are OK for LED bulbs. But on mine being 'historic' I don't I think? I have LED headlamp bulbs already so since I can show those are specifically designed to replace vintage lamps I might be OK. But it might be one of those things it's easier to get it certified with normal bulbs since then there is nothing for them to question (and you change them later).

Hi Simon If you are going to use a mixture of LED and tungsten on the flashers you will need an electronic flasher. If you are using LED in your headlamps some lamps will not work properly if you fit spiders to them. It is all a bit of an ache! Cheers PS you have to get all your grounds going to ground etc you cannot mix anything up!

@@johnclay4811 I am pretty sure I looked at that when I got the lamps and they are compatible with the spiders. You're right, some aren't. I need to reassemble the lamps (if I can remember how!) and see I guess.

If I were to start building my speedster today, I wouldn't be able to afford the parts even if I could find them. Much has changed in a few years. I know there are piles of vintage parts out there, but I have a feeling it's peoples kids trying to sell stuff thinking rusty garbage is worth a fortune. I don't mind repairing junk but I'm not going to pay premium price for it. (I'm strickly speaking of cars from the 1900 to 1940 or so.)

Everything is getting expensive and harder to find. And I suspect a lot is getting thrown out. I was amazed you can buy whole new repo distributors for cheaper than people want for second hand, broken originals.
