In case that it is not suggested yet. I recommend to add a shaft to the coin so that it can be attached to the soldering stick. That makes the process more robust, easier to handle, and it will improve the heat transfer.
@RobMacKendrick
@RobMacKendrick 6 жыл бұрын
With the shaft you suggest, you could also heat several coins together on a hotplate, allowing you to stamp several pieces quickly rather than waiting for a single coin to heat up after stamping each one.

He wants it to be a thing anyone can do.. not everyone has a soldering iron.
@TheRebelmanone

@@dr.nug7103 Not a big deal, if they are knowledgeable enough to build or buy, and operate precious plastics machines making products out of recycled plastic then they can certainly figure out how to buy and operate a soldering iron. It only cost like $40.00 for high wattage iron. Any one of those precious plastics machines will cost into the $1000 and higher, $40.00 more is nothing in comparison. He even used a soldering iron what else do you want, that is why he said he likes to use the solder iron, it is cheap way to heat it that anyone can do and have access to. They sell them everywhere. lol I wouldn't recommend using a torch to the people because it is an open flame, that is why he suggested the solder iron i suspect. But the first thing the common man would grab in this instance is the torch. You can heat it in 3 seconds.

Thank you again Dave. I really enjoy watching you going through all your processes and the way you explain them to us. I was thinking about the whole idea of winning this battle you have with the plastic manufacturers and the consumers especially those who don’t have access to your videos. The point is that a manufacturer is probably producing more plastic in one batch than you and your associates can possibly reuse in a year. This really disturbs and disappoints me on behalf of my grandchildren and great grandchildren. Regards.

I would love to have a go at making a piece. I used to work in a factory that made car parts, shower head parts and numerous things from plastic but nothing you would really want to take home. I seen a coaster made of the recycled plastic that would work nicely as tiles on the wall or floor. I just think it is cool that you could make anything.

I might suggest that your thermal stamping be done by silver soldering each coin onto an inexpensive soldering iron and now you have an easy to use handheld tool for each stamping you require. The silver solder has a much higher melting point but would make it a lot safer, faster and easier to stamp your products.

Great Projects! The rock in the background looks interesting. My first thought was that it looks something like "Tiberium" :-) Why not welding the coins on a tip and mount it in the iron. So it will get up to temperature much quicker and the handling will be nicer too.

Keep thinking up good everyday ideas that everyone uses...Plastic can be remade many times. 3D Printing Filament is another...you build things with a 3D printer also. Bravo for your efforts. If I lived closer, I'd come work for you. ;-)

"it's very labor intensive but this is what we do with recycled plastic." I think this is one of the major issues we got solve to bring the cost down. Although I don't have a answer for the issue now, I disagree with "this is what we do with recycled products. We need more innovation to bring the cost down.
