It’s insane that McTiernan directed Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October, and Predator all on the span of a few years. Anyone would be happy to have just one of those films on their resume.

In the Predator's culture, the more formidable the prey one manages to bring down, the higher their standing in society. The idea pretty much is, the tougher the prey you manage to bring down, the tougher, smarter, and worthy you are. The successful hunter proves they are the superior being, and so the more honor you earn.

@Narkomancers And if a Predator/Yautja can kill a xenomorph aka "the hard meat", in hand to hand combat, they gain a great level of respect as well. Killing a queen was really rare though. If memory serves, there have been only a small handful of legendary Yautja to accomplish this.

You should watch Conan: The Barbarian. It was Arnold's breakout movie, and still one of his best. It's also faithful to the spirit of Robert E Howard's original character and setting, which is a great example of pre-Lord of the Rings swords and sorcery High Fantasy. It always brings me back to my early RPG days. Good reaction, btw.

Now that you've seen T1, T2, and Predator, the next Arnold film you should watch is "Total Recall". It's got a great story line, it's fast paced, and an all around great action film. Definitely one of Arnold's best. And if you're looking for a great Halloween film, I highly recommend trying "The Changeling" (1980) with George C. Scott. It's a great old fashioned haunted house ghost story, it's very well done, and it's a cult classic. Give it a try, I promise you won't be disappointed.

That was a script that everyone in Hollywood said hey, I'll do it but only if my friend is in. And it all hinged on Arnold. 99 times out of 100 that breaks and collapses the production. This time, it didnt and benefited for it. At least it has that feel. Nowadays many projects suffer for this same approach.

One thing that most people miss the first time round (I know I did) is that when the Predator shoots Arnie, he actually hits his rifle and not Arnie, which is why he’s able to escape with only a relatively minor injury. It’s just a little detail that isn’t made 100% clear in the movie. As for the rest, damn, it’s fun! Classic 1980s quotable carnage, and yet slightly subversive, too! This was made at the height of the muscle-man action film trend, but John McTiernan wasn’t too interested in directing a brainless movie about brawny guys shooting stuff, so he chose to gently satirise the whole thing by amping up the macho-ness to 11, before showing that all the muscle, guns and testosterone in the world were useless in the face of this threat (the firing into the jungle with everything they had and hitting nothing was a good illustration of this - it’s a semi-Freudian way of saying that the men are basically impotent). It’s only by using his brains and cunning that Arnie is able to come out on top. I think that is a big part of why this film has remained popular for so long - it aspires to be a little bit more than an average shoot-em-up, and it’s something that McTiernan continued with in Die Hard, which was perhaps the first big nail in the coffin for the muscle-man hero in cinema. Anyway, I hope you enjoy many more Arnie movies, Madison (and congratulations on 15,000 subscribers! )… now get to the choppa!

Probably the most unexpected Schwarzenegger role, in retrospect, is his part in "Stay Hungry." The 1976 movie was filmed in Birmingham, Alabama and he played a supporting role as a weightlifter working in gym. You get to see Arnold playing a fiddle. Downtown Birmingham is visible when the tallest buildings were what are now the AT&T building and the Regions Bank building. Other scenes were shot in Mountain Brook. Jeff Bridges and Sally Field star, along with some other well-known actors like Robert Englund (Freddie Krueger) and Roger Moseley (T.C. from the original "Magnum, P.I.")

The Predator species name is YAUTJA (YOWT-ja). They are interstellar sportsmen whose entire culture revolves around big game hunting. They test themselves against apex predators which often includes sentient beings like man. They have a code in that they do not kill the unarmed or the infirm as it is not challenging nor do they kill pregnant prey as a way of husbanding the livestock. If vanquished, they leave no trace of themselves behind by detonating a powerful bomb so as to leave the "preserve" pristine by not contaminating the indigenous culture with their technology. As a rite of passage, they must blood themselves by killing a xenomorph from the "Alien" series. If prey is worthy by offering good sport and defeating the hunter, the tribe will bestow the victor with a trophy. "Predator" is a Schwarzenegger action classic directed by John McTiernan, director of "Die Hard", "Die Hard with a Vengeance", "The Hunt for Red October", "Medicine Man", "The Thomas Crown Affair" and "The 13th Warrior". There's a pretty good Predator fan film on KZfaq set in the Middle Ages with knights called "Predator: Dark Ages" starring Adrian Bouchet (Steapa) from "The Last Kingdom"! The movie is an alien variant of "The Most Dangerous Game", the Richard Connell short story from 1924 which has inspired countless man-hunting-man movies like "Hard Target", "The Naked Prey", "Race with the Devil", "Southern Comfort", "The Running Man", "Surviving the Game" and "Beyond the Reach". The Central American guerrillas were probably Communists receiving supply and support from Russian advisors explaining the Soviet presence. Billy faced off against the Predator alone because he would rather die fighting than running; it was a matter of honor. He drew first blood with his machete so that the Predator would not have the privilege. It's a Native American custom. Anna was unarmed and, therefore, spared. Wounded Poncho was killed because he had already been marked as a combatant and was still holding a weapon. The Predator released Dutch, took off its mask and fought him hand-to-hand because it considered Dutch to be worthwhile prey. The last laugh was the Predator's mimicry. It was using a recording of Billy's laughter at Hawkins' lewd joke to express a fatalistic defiance to Dutch. Three of the cast went into politics! Schwarzenegger became Governor of California, former wrestler Jesse "The Body" Ventura, who played heavy-gunner Blaine, became Governor of Minnesota and Sonny Landham, who played tracker Billy, ran for Governor of Kentucky. Jean Claude Van Damme was supposed to be the Predator originally but he had difficulty with the alien suit as initially designed and was considered too small in stature to be threatening! Special Effects maestro Stan Winston was tasked with redesigning the alien to fit the 7'2" Kevin Peter Hall. The dreds were inspired by a Rastafarian painting in producer Joel Silver's office and the mandibles were the contribution of a napkin sketch by director James Cameron who shared a flight and a brainstorming conversation with Winston by pure chance. Danny Glover stars in the underrated, urban-set "PREDATOR 2" which has some memorable set pieces! Dark Horse comics ran with the crossover concept inspiring Hollywood to make TWO crossover "ALIEN vs PREDATOR" films with moderately successful to excellent results. They're fun and exciting guilty pleasures with the second one, "ALIENS vs PREDATOR: REQUIEM", being a particularly lean and mean DIRECT SEQUEL. There is also a "PREDATORS" film produced by Robert Rodriguez that is definitely worth a look. "The Predator" (2018) REBOOT, however, should be avoided at all costs; it's a franchise-killer! "PREY" is a prequel to the original film which was released on Hulu August 5. The Alien films have a RICHER SUBTEXT while the Predator films are more ACTION FARE but they're both fun sci-fi thrillers. VIEWING ORDER: Alien Aliens (Special Edition) Alien 3 (Assembly Cut) Alien Resurrection (Director's Cut) [OPTIONAL] Predator (1987) Predator 2 Predators Prey Alien vs Predator Alien vs Predator: Requiem (Unrated) Prometheus [OPTIONAL] Covenant [OPTIONAL] INTERNAL CHRONOLOGY: Prey Predator (1987) Predator 2 Alien vs Predator Alien vs Predator: Requiem (Unrated) Predators Predator (2018) [SKIP THIS AWFUL FRANCHISE-KILLING REBOOT] Prometheus [OPTIONAL] Covenant [OPTIONAL] Alien Aliens (Special Edition) Alien 3 (Assembly Cut) Alien Resurrection (Director's Cut) [OPTIONAL]

I wouldn’t say it’s arrogance that killed the predator but it’s own nature. Just as some peoples live to eat, the predator live to hunt. And as such, a hunt can only be satisfying with a challenge. Just like normal hunters, he has rules to make hunting fair, challenging and just more fun. Also he didn’t killed Dutch right away because a trophy is something you have to earn yourself, not something you simply pick on the ground without efforts. So I think the thing that killed the predator was his nature and his own drive for challenges, because without those things life isn’t worth living for them. That is my personal opinion. Really love your reactions and reviews, they are always good and interesting.

There are some other franchises that are supposed to be in the same predator\alien universe, but the only movies that acknowledge it is AVP. Blain spitting his chew on Dillon's boot, Mac threatening to bleed Dillon if he gives away their position one more time, and Poncho mocks Dillon when he loses Anna and says 'maybe you need a leash, AGENT MAN!!.' In short, Dutch's team does not like Dillon though Dillon tries to be part of the team. Even being long time friends with Dutch doesn't help. Dutch can't help but feel his friend is hiding the truth about the mission from him. And Dillon, unfortunately, seems to have lost his morality and sense of values since joining the CIA. Though he does try and redeem himself in the end. -OG

You can pretty much skip the others and watch Prey. The best of all of them.

Predator 2 is also worth watching, but it doesn’t star Arnold. Still a very fun sequel! Hopefully you will watch Arnold in “Commando” sometime, too!

If you like the character Mac, played by Bill Duke, you can see him and Arnold Schwarzenegger together again in the movie "Commando" as different characters. -OG

I could be mistaken, but thy Tyrrell corporation from Alien franchise is also same Tyrrell corporation from blade runner, which makes it tie into aliens. And preditors visit earth , and well..watch the avp movie.

Last Action Hero - most underrated Arnold's movie in my opinion you should watch.

Watch Predator 2 definitely. Prey is good. Predators has its moments. Have fun.

Prey is as at least as good as the first movie. And there's not really directly connected so you can kinda just watch any of the movies in any order.

it's interesting to me how you -- and most Predator viewers -- know the character names and their character traits: Dutch - leader. smart. resourceful. Mack - lost it when his friend died. consumed by revenge and madness Dillon -, former friend, sold his soul for a desk job and is now getting his assets/friends killed....seeks redemption Tyrannosaurus who "aint got time to bleed" who grinds up humans like meat --- scary that he's first to die

Predator mimicking and taunting Dutch's men is not only intimidating 😳 but down right scary. Especially when the Predator uses Billy's laugh at the end of the film before he nuked himself!! -OG

8:30 And Poncho's response is just as great: "Oh...OK" 🤣🤣 10:14 The word you're looking for is transparent 16:53 Denying the Predator the satisfaction of spilling first blood Fun fact: the pilot of the rescue helicopter is Kevin Peter Hall, the man behind the Predator makeup. Hope you give the sequels a shot, aside from AVP: Requiem(2007). I'd say that is the one with no redeeming value. Definitely do NOT watch Prey before Predator 2.

If you want to see Arnold as a more normal character, you should watch "True Lies". A James Cameron film that's a lot of fun. I really think you would enjoy it.

If you enjoyed this Arnold movie I highly recommend True Lies and Last Action Hero. I'd put Last Action Hero near the end of your Schwarzenegger watching experience. It has a lot of references to his movies within. Also Predator 2 and Predators are solid sequels.
