This looks pretty spot on! I think The Villa by Rachel Hawkins has a chance at the top 20, it has over 60k ratings and she's been nominated before

I think that's going to be in the Fiction category! i did consider it being in this category but I think the fact that they put it under 'Contemporary' in that mid-year list i did the vlog based off shows how GR categorise it

Everyone in My Family didn’t come out in the States until January 2023, so it’s eligible for the awards this year! I think Drowning and The Quiet Tenant also have a chance on it

It’s so DEVASTATING that The Writing Retreat can’t be nominated… like that’s my favorite thriller of the year. They need to change the rules so it can be nominated 😂

I just read The Maid's Diary the other week - haven't heard anyone talking about it or anything, but it was SO GOOD! I absolutely loved it and can't believe it hasn't gotten more hype!

I’ve read 7 of your top 10 oop I have a PROBLEM !! Only other book I can think of that you didn’t mention is drowning by TJ Newman I feel I see it pushed by goodreads a lot and it’s fairly well liked and popular - wouldn’t top 10 though. I already can’t wait for your top 10 vlog !! Last Devil To Die is my vote with Lisa Jewell as a close second

I really hope Strange Sally Diamond will be in the top 10! But neither you nor Ashley had her in the top 20, so here’s hoping!🤞🤞 Also, I think Homecoming will be among the top 20. I have read it and it’s 100% mystery thriller, The whole point of the book is trying to figure out why a whole family was found dead years ago and who the killer is… it’s completely different than her previous books.

That seems to be the general consensus about his books especially in regards to the way that he apparently writes awful female characters but people always rate his books fairly well. Its weird that that happens so often

11:01 gut instinct tells me 3 more guaranteed nominees are The Last Word, The Drift, and probably The Writing Retreat. The last 2 weren’t super well received by a wide audience, but they were sooooo highly anticipated that I think enough people read them to get nominated.

i really want meg to read Sometimes I Lie or His & Hers by Alice Feeney. I know she didn’t like Rock Paper Scissors, which is fair, but Daisy Darker is an And Then There Were None retelling so it never stood a chance. I want her to give her backlist ONE LAST CHANCE and then see if she can just write her off completely.

The Last Devil to Die should win. I read a lot of mystery/thrillers and Richard Osman is the best character writer in the genre. A 4.60 rating is an absurdly high rating for a mystery book, and it absolutely deserves it. It's such a poignant and emotional book on top of having a pretty good mystery. That's probably the series only weakness is the mysteries aren't the best, but my god the characters. That said, I also loved The Mysterious Case of the Alperton Angels, but I agree it likely won't get nominated. I also wouldn't be mad if Lisa Jewell won. That was a good thriller, particularly since I don't usually like domestic thrillers. Everyone on this Train is a Suspect doesn't come out in the US until 2024, so it won't be nominated. However, I think your list is pretty solid. Better than I could have done haha.

LOL sorry The Writing Retreat has such a low score - I'm one of the 1 star raters on this one... but I totally see how people would love it - just wasn't for me. It has been so popular this year though I would love to see how it does during the award voting!

Do they go by US publishing date or original publishing date? Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone came out this year in the US and the sequel is beginning of next year! If the first book is that one that counts I could see that being top 20 but not top 10.

I keep getting distracted by your 50 notifications up in the corner. The only mystery thriller I've read this year that I would like to see get some recognition is The Quiet Tenant. It wasn't perfect, and I wouldn't call it a thriller or even really a mystery, honestly, but I was very invested and the plot was very unique. I haven't seen the whole video yet, so you may put this up there, but Mary Kubica has a new one, Just the Nicest Couple, and I think it'll be up there. Pretty sure that was this year. I didn't like it at all, but nothing I like ever makes the list.

I hated The Last Word, one of my worst books of the year (and terrible for mental health rep) BUT I have heard sooooooo many people gush and 5 star it and he's a big author name, so I'll be shocked if it's not in top ten.
