From a outside of USA perspective, relocation is the most strange thing in sports (with the absence of relegation). Normally in Europe and south America the top teams have a very strong relation with the community. Most because of the league formations, it took years to a team became a top tier team. In England a teams can't change neighborhood

To be really honest I really don’t like Portland and as a Seattle sports fan I don’t like Portland’s pro teams. But in a rivalry however you have to always respect your rival. And I dont like Portland as a sports city and their sports fans but overall at the end of the day I respect Them and I take that city and their fans way more seriously then Jacksonville. And also Portland has a better track record of supporting their team because they’ve supported the Blazers and the Timbers for almost 50 years(especially if you count the NASL era in American soccer) And also if Jaguars did come to Portland build the rivalry with the Seahawks. It would be like the Ducks and huskies rivalry on steroids.

Honestly Jacksonville only doesn't fill the building solely because of their performance. If you look back to right after their 2017 run to the AFC Championship game they were the number one seller of season tickets that off-season. If they would even put themselves in a position to contend for the very last wild card spot the fans would come out in great numbers.

@@GoalHornGeek Wrong, as someone who was a Whalers fan, Karmorons said he wasn't going to move it. Matter of fact, the fact that he got the team was fishy as another ownership team (mostly Connecticut businesspeople) offered more money, and private funding to build an arena, but the owners (and one was the governor) refused. The Whalers still have a fan club and the state's hockey fan will welcome them back. That said, with Connecticut being mismanaged, I doubt it would happen, because people are moving out. NHL and NBA have a unwritten agreement not to step on each other's shoes in mid and small markets. Milwaukee has the Bucks. Denver is the smallest metro with both and it's a lot bigger than Milwaukee plus it has unrivalled regional support from how isolated it is as a major city. You would have strong regional support in the state itself but I suspect it would be to avoid breaking that compact with the NBA more than anything

I’m so glad I’m not seeing the Carolina Hurricanes on these lists anymore. This season, across the first 6 home games, the team has averaged 18,170 (97.3% Capacity) fans per game, which is 7th best in the league right now, with the next game sold out as well. Last season, they averaged 17,210 fans which is very good coming right out of Covid (one of the few teams to grow). I’d also say Raleigh is ready for another pro team. The overall Raleigh-Durham market has 2.2M people in it, not including the 500k in Fayetteville or the 1.6M in Greensboro which are only an hour away each. In terms of sports, there’s only the college teams, and 1 major league team. The Canes. For comparison, Nashville has 1.9M people in it and has the Predators, Nashville SC, Titans, and NASCAR. Meanwhile, NC State and UNC football programs have 50,000 people at each game and the Duke and UNC basketball games are always sold out (note UNC has 22,000 seats). On top of that, NC State’s baseball program has also been selling out for years and the Durham bulls have been near the top of the MiLB in terms of value, following, and attendance. There’s also to consider the corporate growth, population growth and transportation growth. I mean, since Covid, Apple, Clorox, VinFast, Google, Meta have all established some hub or headquarters in the area. And now, Avelo airlines plans to base at least 7 aircraft at the airport by 2024 and the airport maintaining 3 successful flights to Europe without many connecting passengers. And for what it’s worth, the canes invented shared box suites and have sold out all suites and box suites since moving to Raleigh. This is exactly what the major league organizations are looking for, yet keep passing up Raleigh because of other nearby cities that are just a bigger name grab.

I love the US-Canada dynamic in the Big 4 sports leagues, especially the NHL. That being said, I do prefer that the NFL remain a US-only league. I love how NFL football is exclusively an American tradition that our whole country can share. Other countries are welcome to follow along of course, but keep the teams in the US please.

Football’s almost as big in Canada as it is in the states. It’s been played in Canada just as long as it has been in America, and after hockey it’s by far the second most popular sport here Lots of people make trips down to Buffalo or New England every year to see games. It’s definitely not exclusively American.

@@Dreadlock1227 I didn't say football in general is exclusively American, specifically NFL football is. But a lot of sports fans in Canada are getting tired of the blatant pro-U.S. double standard. Why should we support the 'growth' of the NHL into ridiculous places like Arizona, where it has done nothing but lose multi-millions, when the NFL refuses to put a team in Toronto that would be obviously be profitable and in a much larger market than Jacksonville? I have no choice but to accuse you of being pro-American and selfish.
@Dreadlock1227
@Dreadlock1227 4 ай бұрын
@@FischerFan to be fair, most of the NHL’s expansion efforts into non traditional hockey cities in the US have been very successful. Arizona’s just the one bad example but the rest have gone great. And at the end of the day, the NHL’s objective when it comes to expansion is to create new fans who weren’t already watching the NHL, which is something that expanding into Canada won’t really do. If they were to put a new team in Quebec City, or a 2nd Toronto team, that wouldn’t really be bringing any new fans to the league. But Seattle or Vegas? Those are basically untapped markets of hundreds of thousands of potential new hockey fans. I don’t like it either, but at the end of the day the NHL exists to maximize their profits. Expansion is a tool to do that, and expansion into the US is the most optimal way to go about it. And it’s the same with the NFL. As far as utilizing expansion to maximize the leagues profits goes, Toronto just isn’t an optimal market.
@FischerFan
@FischerFan 4 ай бұрын
@@Dreadlock1227 You are forgetting that the League also had to vacate Atlanta. Florida had been floundering for years. Carolina had a few years when they were playing in front of more empty seats than filled ones as well. Nashville was once at risk of relocation. San Jose and Anaheim are struggling due to their on-ice products. So you can't say that Arizona has been the exception rather than the rule. You make it sound as if the NHL needs to put a team in every American city in order to create new fans for itself. This is blatantly untrue. Playoff games in Arizona have proven that teams like the Red Wings and Black Hawks have had followings long before the NHL put a team in Phoenix. That's like saying that football can't possibly have a following in San Antonio or Austin unless there is a team there, and your claim that Toronto can't be a solid market for the NFL is absurd. The NFL has always enjoyed a strong following across Canada.

For the Kings, the support is still there, the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Once they show even a small sign of getting any stuff together, they’ll start selling out. Heck, the mayor of Sacramento even rallied to keep the team there. Seattle is better off getting an NBA expansion team. Las Vegas could definitely use an expansion team there also for the NBA. Houston would be a great market for a relocated NHL team, the MLB could use Nashville and Charlotte as expansion teams. For the NFL, the Jaguars could move to Austin, that would be a perfect fit for them, much more than London.

The pitch at Wembley and Twickenham can't handle a full NFL season so the only option is Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (who got a retractable 2nd pitch). I think a lot of people don't understand what the NFL is actually looking for if a team is to relocate. 1. Tv / Media market: London has a massive market for this. 2. Established base for fan travel: London has a major hunmb for international travel. Much like every other NFL team has access to a close, major airport. 3. Stadium Budget: The Jags owner already owns Wembly stadium in London, meaning they won't need to tax or crowd source funding. 4. Will the new market support the team better?: Jacksonville has struggled to maintain max attendance/season tickets due to the teams lack of success as well as the multitude of other options that a state like Florida offers. London has show sell out crowds left and right for concerts, Soccer and Football at Wembley which holds 90,000. The Jags would probably adopt a new fan base instantly as the only Euro team. 5. Travel: This will be the single largest hurdle to overcome. International travel would suck for the NFL and its fans. This alone could drive team expenses through the roof and limit fans traveling to support their teams. Overall i think they'll make a push for it, but its gonna be a tough sell to the league. However, the move makes complete sense.

I think it’s a dumb idea for the Jags to move to London for a few reasons. 1) It would devastate the Jags fan base with any move. While the Jags aren’t known for having a large, rabid fan base it would still suck. Being a Browns fan I know how this feels. 2) The travel there would be tricky. Moving equipment and such across country is hard enough, try doing it internationally. 3) There are closer, more logical locations if they are determined to go international. Mexico City is a huge market. It fits the AFC South. Games are already being played in that time zone regularly. Or you could go Toronto. This would likely require realignment but you could easily swap the Jags into the AFC East and move the Dolphins to the south.

Here's how I think a London team could work logistically: The London franchise would have an east coast city like Hartford or Bangor as a home base. The players and coaches live there and that's where their practice facility is. Every Saturday night during the season they get on an airplane and return immediately after the game. In exchange for the travel hassle, players on the London team would get an automatic 3-5% bonus that doesn't count against the salary cap.

As a Detroit Lions fan, I Wish the Fords would sell the team to someone who knows how to actually run a football team. That also entails most likely the team being moved as well which would not make any of us Detroit Lions fans happy

I thought I was the only one who thought the Panthers should move to Quebec City. And as far as the Chargers going to Texas? If they do San Antonio sounds the best location to me. And I'm pretty sure there will be baseball and basketball teams in Las Vegas sooner than later.
