The issues you are looking for would be in Europe. From an article “The company, based in Sandpoint, Idaho, filed for bankruptcy in 2019 soon after the FAA grounded all ATLAS-equipped Citations, citing, in part, the then-ongoing NTSB investigation of the 2018 crash, as well as five incidents of uncommanded roll events reported by pilots to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and the FAA between February 2018 and April 2019 that the NTSB noted in its final report on the 2018 crash. None of the other five incidents involved an accident or injury; pilots described unexpected and uncommanded roll events of varying magnitude, recovered with varying degrees of opposite aileron.” Safe flying but remember that those have had issues of having minds of their own.

Werner, the basic strategy behind a winglet is it increases the wing surface area and recovers some of the lost aerodynamic energy by directing the wing tip vortices into more lift. The Tamarack system also uses small, automated, panels that move with G (gravity) loads which reduces the stress on the wing. Pretty cool!

I feel perfectly safe flying with the winglets in the aircraft, and practice responses to any abnormal events. Even without winglets in airplanes with 'usual systems' there are failure risks. I've encountered several during my flying career. While we can never eliminate all risks as crew, it is essential we train frequently to respond properly in the event they occur.
