Күн бұрынPandemonium broke out when a hungry wild dog took on a pregnant impala, that was then almost rescued by a hippo, then hunted by a hyena and stolen by a leopard!

This unimaginable sighting was captured by 31-year-old, industrial psychologist, Gabi Hotz, while enjoying a peaceful sundowner in Djuma Sabi Sand, Greater Kruger.

Gabi tells LatestSightings.com the story: “On an afternoon sundowners, the bush was extremely tranquil and peaceful, until a wild dog created absolute pandemonium.” Impalas are able to run at speeds faster than 60km/h, unfortunately for this impala, not even speed would get her out of this situation alive. “A lone wild dog chased the impala into the water, she was then guided out of the water by a hippo, where she quickly met her fate.”
“After being taken down by the wild dog, a hyena joined the feast that was more than anyone had bargained for. The hyena ripped open the impala’s stomach and pulled out a fully formed fetus. The impala fetus was devoured within minutes.”
“From the tree branches in the distance, a young female leopard named Cara sat and waited for her chance to get her share. The commotion caused by a herd of elephant nearby resulted in the feasting wild dog running to join the rest of the pack. This created enough of a distraction for Cara to take the leap and steal the impala, pulling it into the tree away from any hungry mouths.”
“We all watched in shock and sadness at the fate of the poor impala and her unborn offspring. A surreal reminder that nature can be cruel."

She shouldn’t even be crying. There’s no need to be sad. It’s nature. Things aren’t always for the faint of heart. Nature can be beautiful and peaceful, but it can also be violent and frightening. It’s been like that for millions and millions of years, and (if we choose more environmentally friendly decisions) will continue to do so.

@@hazreennn there can be different reactions to what we see as “sad”. Some levels of sad just elicit a frown, while others elicit buckets of tears. Sightings like these don’t make me sad. They actually make me glad because there are some places remaining that still have nature in all its wild and primal glory. The only time footage of a wild animal killing another wild animal made me cry is when some hyenas tore a painted wolf/African wild dog pup apart. It’s from the documentary “Dynasties”.

@@CrazyIshan69 - very unusual, a full grown female spotted hyena is slightly bigger than a full grown leopard, some can be about the same The leopard can attack ferociously but the hyena bite is so painful it lets go instantaneously, they have a bone crushing bite force, a leopard could possibly fight off two juvenile male spotted hyenas? but not a massive female spotted hyena.

This is rare for hyenas and painted wolves to work together. In most circumstances, the hyena would chase the painted wolf off. Perhaps both were desperate.

@@CrazyIshan69 Indeed, which is why I'm suprised by the fact that the dog, and eventually the hyena, continue pulling and eating the carcass a few feet from the hippo's face instead of just ditching it and bolting the heck out of there, tho to be fair that is one of the calmest hippos I have ever seen, which may explain why the dog and hyena were so bold.

Adult leopards will rarely take on a full grown female spotted hyena, they are bigger than a leopard and are more than capable of defending themselves from a leopard attack, hyenas can bite so hard, a leopard won't usually bother

Spotted hyenas seem to always be willing to share, if it's safe, this hyena was sharing the impala carcass with the wild dog! The hyena got the 'best bit' of the prey too, awful to some but the unborn impala would have been so nutritious for her The spotted hyena is a fantastic African animal, l truly love these fascinating but widely misunderstood mammals

Hippos are indeed territorial and aggressive, which is why I'm suprised cuz that was one of the calmest hippos I have ever seen. It just stood there quietly instead of chasing after the hyena and dog with its mouth wide open, and they were boldly eating a few feet away from its face.
