DeLora Shepard unfortunately that's not always the case. We had a pit/german shepherd that we raised from a puppy that was the nastiest thing. She ended up killing our other dog which was a terrier mix. I still love pits and Sheppard's but yes in most cases owners are what effects the dogs behavior.

DeLora Shepard my friend is a dog trainer and specializes in Bully breeds especially pitbulls and his Pitbull is a purebred blue nose gigantic and thinks you should sit in your lap LOL he's also a license and emotional therapy and physical therapy dog he's purposely taking into public to bring awareness to the breed

Pit bulls were bred to fight other dogs. Yes, the owners play a significant factor, but pit bulls are more prone to aggression and can be temperamental.

@@whitenoise7980 pits was not bred for fighting other dogs... They were originally bred for cattle and also yes to fight but not another dog or person... They was used to take down bulls or something of like that.... They was bred in the UK for that, then brought over to the US around ww2 time and was seen as the perfect family dog, they're great around kids and they are extremely loyal to her family. Then us horrible humans started to use them for fighting for our entertainment, it's not the dog's fault. And technically Pitbull is not an actual breed, it's more of a category.... The actual breeds would be Staffordshire terrier, American Staffordshire, bull terrier, and I forgot the other name..

@@JamesLee-ps9hj They were bred for dog fights for a while, bringing an aggressive gene to light. It isn't a common gene, but it is there and is seen as undesirable by breeders. Most Pitts do not have any genetic aggressive behaviors though and make excellent family dogs if raised correctly. Like any animal, you do have to watch them around young children though. Any animal will snap given the right conditions, and young children have a natural talent for "pushing buttons", so to speak. With small dog breeds, this isn't as big of an issue as even if the dog snaps at the child, it can't do too much damage. With a breed like a Pitt though, it is another matter entirely. They have very powerful jaws and could cause a lot of harm. Again, it isn't just Pitts that display this behavior, but all animals (humans included in our own way). I guess what I'm saying is raise your pets well, be aware of your pet's unique personality (every one is different), and always watch your young children around pets, for both your child's safety as well as your pet's.
