When I lived in Ft Lauderdale, I usually had my patio door wide open. I gradually taught a squirrel to come inside my apartment, get up on the desk next to my computer monitor, and we would share a can of Planter's mixed nuts. I gave him the ones I didn't like. He'd eat his nut, then hold out his hands for another one, while looking up at me with those intelligent eyes. I'm buying a house this fall, and it has a big oak tree with lots of fallen acorns in the yard, but I'm hoping to coax more squirrels onto my property by offering walnuts and other treats. I might build a squirrel house to mount up in the oak tree, so they'll have a place to raise a family.

That is fantastic, however, just be careful if they have ticks, fleas, or other issues before you allow them into your house.

Aaaw, 😯 the sweetheart. Hope everything goes well for her and her babies....at least she has been well nourished for sure. Trouble is: won't be seeing her when she is nursing her kittens. Good Luck sweetie 💘💘💘

If those fence boards are standard size (which they look to be) then I can confirm that squirrel is fking massive

I think they’re beautiful creatures. We have one that’s had her babies. She was recovering from a predator bird. Lastly, she was pregnant again, but came back with an injured arm and thin

It's also possible you have someone in your area that's shooting them with an air rifle (pellet gun). My next door neighbor hates squirrels and uses an air rifle to shoot their front legs so they can't dig around his yard. Poor little guys come hobbling over to my yard and it's really sad. Most can't climb trees without the use of at least one working front leg, so they wander around on the ground and hide under my deck to avoid the local cats and red foxes that roam around my area. I've seen a couple that appear to have a pellet or BB lodged beneath the skin and it's become infected and they've lost their fur in that area. I'm in the process of trying to trap them so I can help them. Squirrels are classified as a pest, so there are no laws to protect them from cruel people.

@@Cryocide13 I have a neighbor like that too. Works for a security firm. He will set out feeders to attract the squirrels to his front yard where they become target practice for his pellet gun. He killed Coconut a beautiful young squirrel with silver accented fur. I raised Coco from a baby.

I have 4 in my yard and feed them walnuts and almonds...it's funny they eat the walnuts and bury the almonds..one comes right at me and eats out of my hand and if I ignore him he climbs up my leg and just looks at me with those big eyes like saying " where's my treat". Over the winter they had mange and I gave them medicine which I dipped the walnuts in and their fur grew back within weeks...now they are part of the family and they don't even mind the cat

i have 6 in my back yard and every other day i have 8 that come to eat the peanuts and seeds i buy regularly for them. they seem to feel safe in my yard and like to stay close which makes me feel better then having them crossing the streets looking for something to eat people are complete jerks and are heartless thinking it is ok to hit and kill these sweet animals when driving down the street it is truly awful when they lose a friend or family member that gets ran over by a jerk they cry for days and grieve as they truly make very strong bonds with each other they are survivors threw all kinds of weather and seasons they have more courage then most humans and way smarter than most humans

Well I see males at the feeder too, but only she knows which the father is. They say pregnant squirrels are the easiest for people to make friends with because they are starving all the time!
