I wish this was taken more seriously in the medical community. I almost completely disconnect with reality for a couple of days and it has taken me almost a decade and a half to realize what was happening by carefully tracking my symptoms and training myself to become objective about my own thoughts

Same here. And talking to other women about it is just like “yeah, I get cramps and stuff too” and I’m just like, “I become someone that I don’t even recognize.”

I struggled with this for years. And I am so grateful God allowed me to find out what was wrong with me. PMDD is so hard to deal with especially if you have no idea that that’s what you have. I never wanted to get help because I didn’t want to take medications but it started affecting me in my work I was so sensitive and emotional. But thank God I got the help that I needed. Now my life is so much better 🤍 Thank you Jesus 🙏🏽

People def need to talk about this more. Women have so much shame and hide so much of what they're going thru. I have PMDD and I felt crazy and had so much guilt because I just thought I couldn't control my emotions. You feed have to be your own advocate 💜

Wow, I think I’ve had pmdd for 25 years now. I’ve been on antidepressants for the last 6 years I just couldn’t take it anymore. I’ve always thought how my period takes over my life it’s always been the week leading up to it I was too down to do anything and the week of just too nervous to do anything. Half of each month sucks. I’ve always been so bitter about that. I call in sick and when I was in school I’d miss a couple of days. I’ve had to cancel plans last minute, I’ve missed weddings. I’m 37 now and have isolated from everybody so that I don’t have to “rank out” when I get invites. Nobody understands, I feel like not many girls have it, cause everybody I’ve ever told thinks it’s silly. Just leads to isolation not wanting to express how I feel. People make me feel like I’m overreacting. I’m hopeful this disorder gets more awareness. The awareness with anxiety and depression over the last couple of years has been helpful with ppl understanding me. ❤

With 6yrs of meds you still suffer? What meds do you take? Is it not working? I’m at my wits end, I’ve had to get rid of any pills before I flip and end it all

I kinda wish it didnt get compared to PMS at all because it is soooo much worse and has more symptoms than pms. I have PMDD and there are times I have called off work thinking I was sick before I was diagnosed. It got way worse after having kids for me. Today is one of those days and I am fighting through it though I really wanna call out of work today. I will feel so bad having to tell my manager. I am scared I will deal with Depersonalization-derealization. I really feel bad when I feel like this and I feel bad for others.

Can you talk more about the obvious correlation between PMDD and trauma? From what I have learned from people that work with trauma and the nervous system ( dr peter lavine and Irene Lyon) it seems our nervous systems can become sensitive to our natural hormone fluctuations because of trauma. Furthermore, there is a condition called PME which is the exasperation of already existing mental health conditions, again by the fluctuation of hormones. Does this point towards trauma and disregulated nervous systems as a possible cause? I have CPTSD and in the past my PMDD has gotten much worse as my CPTSD symptoms have. I have recently been trying a new therapy for my Cptsd and it has started to lift my PMDD symptoms as well. Maybe this is how women's bodies carry and deal with trauma. What do you think? Also I clicked so fast when I saw it was you! I watch Dereks channel and I think its so cool you cover all things period! we need more people like you making this stuff normal to discuss! :)

I remember one person at work saying she never has issues or has behaved like she was from "the funny farm" before her period.. I had already been open in expressing my mental health struggles during pms so that felt like a bit of an insult. A video on how to approach this may be useful if you felt like you have advice to offer.

I am no doctor, not even a nurse, but I have had four pregnancies… one was a miscarriage, they told me I could never get pregnant again and that I may be had a 20% chance of conceiving… one year and a half later I got pregnant with my last and hemorrhage when they tied my tubes. Just like when I hemorrhaged when I was under when they were doing my dilation and evaluation for my miscarriage!.. I have never been the same since my D&E!!! I now have PMDD, awfully, even my children don’t wanna be around me, because I turn into a completely different person!!! I hope and pray that this does not happen to any other women, and that you guys will never have to go through anything like this😢✌️💜 ladies

Not the OP but absolutely not. You can do whatever you put your mind to. Having a career you enjoy with coworkers or bosses who are patient and understanding is more of an influence than the job itself. I feel like that may be a male dominated field so I just hope they treat you with respect because men have a hard time understanding.
