Let’s talk about premenstrual dysphoric disorder. Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe form of PMS or premenstrual syndrome.
A few symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD):
• Bloating
• Headaches
• Breast tenderness
• Anxiety
• Depression
There seems to be a lot of information about PMDD but no information that’s going to help correct the problem. Most information is on how to live with the problem more comfortably.
With PMDD, the person has a hormonal imbalance situation. Typically, estrogen is low, but progesterone is severely low. This can give the appearance of an estrogen dominance situation, but it’s not really an estrogen dominance situation.
What you can do for PMDD:
• Avoid all dairy
• Consume cruciferous vegetables or take DIM
• Consume sea kelp (iodine)
• Take vitamin D (10,000-20,000IU per day)

I had PMDD years starting early on in my teens without knowing what it was or what was going on with me. It wasn't until my late 20s til I started to connect the dots that for 2 WHOLE WEEKS before my period I was a total disaster. IT WAS AWFUL. PMDD made a mess of my relationships and jobs and life and doctors were absolutely no help, they didn't even hear of PMDD back then. I was 45 when I had my ovaries removed - the only real cure to this debilitating disease. I feel 1000% better but if I'm being honest, I am very angry and resentful for having to be the 1% that has (had) it and for it basically ruining my life. Sorry for the rant, but to say what I suffered through was a nightmare is an understatement, glad you're talking about Dr. Berg, more of this is needed.

Maybe we don't have to be estrogent dominant, but consuming dairy before our menstruation cycle does elevate the estrogen. I remember taking a big tall coffee and milk 2 days in a row, before my cycle begin, and i got a terrible headache now, but it's not always like that with my other cycle.

This really works! Thank you so much Dr Berg! I have been doing this for three months now and the change is absolutely incredible. I have suffered from PMDD for the past 25 years gradually getting worse as I get older. I was on the absolute brink a few months ago, completely desperate and have been begging for help from GPs and gynaecologists for years and they keep telling me it’s ‘just depression’ I was already subscribed to your channel and find your videos fascinating so I searched to see if you had one on PMDD…and here we are. I have been taking 20,000 iu of Vitamin D, organic sea kelp, cut out all dairy and started a low GI diet. For the first time in my life my nervous system is calm. I’m no longer in fight or flight mode. I have had 3 menstrual cycles now with next to no symptoms 😮 I still get some physical symptoms but my emotions are regulated and I feel like this is how ‘normal me’ should be. I was so sceptical when you said at the start of the video it was an ‘easy fix’ because nobody has maned to fix this in 25 years! But you were right. I have so much gratitude for you and hope this video helps many women get through this absolute hell. Thank you from the bottom of my heart ❤️

You don’t have PMDD so you wouldn’t know it’s not great advice. They are two completely different things. Many people with pmdd already omit dairy, sugar and caffeine. They still have pmdd because it’s not a hormonal imbalance. Dr Berg has not shown any evidence-based or scientific evidence for his “solution”. It just feeds his bank account.

Dr. Berg thank you so so much for this video. I have been suffering from PMDD for as long as I can remember.. I was diagnosed with it in 2017, I'm 27 years old. First, I have to say it's comforting (in a sad way) to know that I am not alone in this crazy imbalance issue.. Reading the comments of each woman who has suffered this can understand firsthand what it's like to not feel like yourself during that awful time.. Second, I just want to say I appreciate this video so much.. It cuts to the chase. I have been reading articles and trying to research ways to combat this.. Yesterday I went to the doctor's and am trying a new prescription. I am so so tired of dealing with this and not only do I suffer from it, but my loved ones do as well.. I am going to try all four suggestions in this video. I will report back to you if it helps, and YOU have officially given me hope.

Aside from some minor physical discomfort just before and during my period, I can say that my emotional symptoms are virtually gone (and I've only been following this routine for two weeks). Thank you for treating this disorder from the ground up! You are incredible!!! ☆

I feel like if I didn't know what pmdd was before this video I don't think I would have been like oh ya thats what I have. This video didn't go into detail enough on the symptoms and the hormonal imbalance. I hope you make another video in the future with a little more info. For now I will try your suggestions. Ask your obgyn to put you on bioidentical progesterone ASAP, you only need a low dose because progesterone is the feel good hormone, the everything is going to be OK hormone which gives women resilience. This hormone decreases after 35, your body does not replenish it and it being too low in relation to estrogen, causes all kinds of malaise that many doctors simply label as ‘you’re crazy and here’s your anti-depressant pill’

Okay, so I started taking these almost a month ago, right after my last cycle when my PMDD was maybe the worst I've had. Figured too many people said it worked and it was worth trying if it gave me relief. I started taking the exact supplements listed here and did not cut out dairy. The DIM did not give me headaches and after a few days of 1/day I started taking 2/day. The difference in my PMDD this cycle is noticeable and it is such a relief. Still had some days with low mood but overall the low was so much less extreme, and over the last week I even had moments where I felt peppy. In my life, PMDD is usually so intense that it throws me off track with my healthy lifestyle and habits but this time around the lows were so much less extreme and has a shorter duration so I was able to manage my symptoms and stay (relatively) on track. Anyway, I was skeptical but now I'm sold. One question though, did anyone else notice a difference in their anxiety after taking these vitamins? I feels like my anxiety is waaaaay less on a day to day basis and I'm not sure if it's from this or meditating.

I've always suffered from PMDD, felt so much pain that I had inyections because the pain caused me nausea, feeling cold with low blood pressure. I felt emotionally drained, everytime I had my period it was like the curtain dropped and I was able to see everything with clarity and in a positive way, but the two weeks before my period it was the opposite, I was sad, depressed, negative, I wasnt able to study or do things normally. I've always was a good student but during my periods I couldnt do my presentations or study, I lost motivation and the test results were fluctuant. I always had migrains like almost everyday. When I moved to the states I started to consume more dairy and my migraines became worst the acne as well but emotionally I was miserable, I felt so much lack of energy that I thought that my sugar went down and maybe I was becoming diabetic or something. Now that I changed my diet and completelly eliminated dairy all this terrible symptoms dissapered, I did it because my baby is alergic to cows protein/milk. My husband used to say that I was bipolar but there was a consistency and relation with the periods. Now seeing this I'm connecting the dots. No more acne, no more migrains, no more PMDD 🎉🎉🎉

I just came here after 1.5 year to post my comment. THIS HELPED ME WITHIN a MONTH ! I 'have' PMDD and PCOS. The supplements you advised to take just solved both problems. I had irregular periods and 2 weeks PMDD symptoms (depression like state, latargy, crying, anger, huge cravings, huge bloating and water retention) just horrible waste of time and bad vibes. It was like this from when I was 16. It took me 10 years to figure out that this is related to my hormones and not my personality... And I ended up researching PMDD. One day when it was so sunny and beautiful summer day and I was on the beach but I felt like a cloud was on my head, I was so angry without any reason I search through all Internet and found this video. I've implemented your advice + I tried to manage more stress. And it helped! I just wanted to thank you so much!👼 I'm finally sane, my cycle is somewhat regular, no or little symptoms of PMS, sometime even I am surprised when period comes, because nothing builds me up for this event. I am so happy that I will not waste half of my life for the depressed state of being! WOMEN try it out!

I kept a diary for two years and took it to my Dr to show her the patterns, at first I was sent to councilling to determine bipolar type 2, I was diagnosed with pmdd and the Dr said " you will have to take antidepressants untill menopause" that was 9 years ago since then the major rage I used to experience has subsided the other symptoms have become manageable, but the migraines and pain are still there each period. Going plant based has contributed to reduction in symptoms as well as using herbs. My periods now are every 25 days so it's a short cycle for normality before it all starts again.

Can you talk about the obvious correlation between PMDD and trauma? They often occur together. From what I have learned from people that work with trauma and the nervous system it seems our systems can become sensitive to our natural hormone fluctuations. Furthermore, there is a condition called PME which is the exasperation of already existing mental health conditions, again by the fluctuation of hormones. Does this not point towards trauma and disregulated nervous systems as a possible cause? I have CPTSD and in the past my PMDD has gotten much worse as my CPTSD symptoms have. I have recently been trying a new therapy for my ptsd and it has started to lift my PMDD symptoms as well. Maybe this is how women's bodies carry and deal with trauma. What do you think?

A little over a month ago, I started taking B1 because I had terrible daily anxiety attacks that lasted for hours, and I could never rest when sleeping. A lot of things improved. My sleep got better, and the anxiety attacks completely disappeared. Besides those symptoms, I also had terrible moodswings (mostly a lot of sadness and crying, and I needed a lot more affection) for an entire week before my period, and for all 4-5 days of my period as well. Since I started B1, I still feel the hormonal changes in my body, but only on the first day of ovulation and only on the day my period actually starts! At this point, I confirm my period is starting in a couple hours because I only get mood swings on that particular day! That is amazing. I don't know if it is going to keep being like this for as long as I take B1 or if it's going to go back (after all, this is the second cycle I experience while taking it). I still wanted to check out this video, and several others as well, because it honestly isn't enough that a problem has started to go away. I want to manage it as much as possible and prevent it from possibly getting bad again.

Things that I have found make my PMDD worse: 1. Caffeine 2. Dairy - Cheese etc 3. Lack of sleep 4. Stress And its particularly bad if these things build up through the month before my period. oh boy watch out. Im experimenting with vitamin levels and taking sugar out now and will be taking Dr Bergs advice too.

I noticed the same 4 points you mentioned plus sugar and nicotine. I eliminated all of them, eat only homemade food, exercise everyday and take vitamin D3, fish oil, B6, magnesium and C. My symptoms are 80% less. The best part I started to feel happy and no longer trying to kill someone 2 weeks before my period.

Sea kelp has helped me so much! Also the other strategies you cover in the video. One question: if my vitamin D levels are on point as they appear in my blood tests, do I still need to take more?

I used to think I had PMDD but I ended up having low vitamin D and also low ferritin. Have you ever considered doing more videos on ferritin? Low ferritin can really cause a lot of symptoms, especially for women.

Low ferritin is low stores of iron in the body, not the circulating iron, as I understand it. I had this. I get very heavy periods. I now take iron during and after. But I've still got severe pmdd so will have to try this!

I had low iron and realised my PMDD was very severe when I had anemia. I was asked to take primrose oil supplements and iron supplements. But the moment you stop the prim rose it shot up again.

I turn Psychotic just few days before my period, have reliased that those are the days I have had severe arguments with the hubby, told the kids off and other life events. So now that I am aware of this I tell the family not to get in my wrong books because I'm going through PMS and they laugh and comply. Sometimes I forget and flip and then afterwards think what was that all about and when I realize l quickly check for my due date and find that the crazy hormones are setting in. So far I found keto, low carb and intermittent fasting gets rid of the mood swings. I don't get other PMD symptoms, but the PMD rage and anger, my emotions are so severe, like very sad tearful and get angry quick but once period starts I am the happiest, most grateful person. It's goes from one extreme to the other for two days just a week before I start and ends the day I start. I found the Pill also gives me severe mood swings.

After watching this video I started taking DIM, sea-iodine capsule, vitamin D3 and two things I included myself- vitamin B12 and Omega 3. One pill each every day. Also stopped taking Yoghurt for breakfast. It has been a month now. I already felt the change in my mood and energy level from the first week. I’ve been suffering from period related depression for already many years. So I know quite clearly when I feel good or not, from all the past experiences. I can tell that this last month was pretty amazing. I am not so depressed as I used to be, and I also have much more energy throughout the day. I do still sometimes have depressive feelings but it does not last so long anymore. Previously it would last days to weeks. Now just for half a day i might feel bad and much more days are filled with good energy. Life is much more liveable now. I really hope this will continue on.

I'm 7 days before þy period, i can feel everything changing. This is usually when i start falling off the mountain of stability. I'm going to try this all now. I'm so tired of this roller-coaster every month. Meditation has helped but it in no way eliminates it. Thanks for this advice ill come back and leave a review after these 7 days!

I suffer from this. I haven't had my daily milk anymore (changed to coconut milk though I don't like it much). Also increased my cruciferous intake. It did help but I still have some simptonz, specially mood changes. I've been wondering if keffir should be fine? I love my daily yogurt (no sugar) and I'm trying to find something to substitute it.

Dr Berg, TY!! so much for all the info you share with us. My issue is, I've had 2 separate partial hysterectomies, the removal of my ovaries the first time, didn't help, so they took my uterus the second time, but left my cervix. I know, it's crazy. I have always had horrible pms with the promise from the Dr that did the surgeries, that the hysterectomies would get rid of the problem, but to no avail. The only thing that has stopped is the breast tenderness, and the bleeding. I was 34 at the time, and my Dr put me on antidepressants, which hasn't helped at all. Now at 57yrs old, every 2 weeks, I suffer debilitating depression, anxiety, I gain 10lbs, and my desire for sweets go in over drive, I get so bloated, and miserable to the core. I'm a different person during this time. PLEASE tell me what I can do to stop this.

You'll gain weight after menopause no matter what. I'm 54 and dealt with PMDD. I eat mostly meat now with some veggies. I eat a high fiber cereal when I start my day (Frosted Mini Wheats mixed with All Bran buds). Anything else and I get bloated. I'm surprised you deal with symptoms when not having hormonal fluctuations. It doesn't make sense and leads me to think you're eating something your body has issues tolerating. I'm not saying you didn't have PMDD, I'm saying perhaps you're having issues related to diet that mimics it to some degree. You'll have to try different things. For me, I had to cut out all breads and add more meat, stop cow milk and use soy milk or lactose free cow milk, and stop peanuts in any form. Vegan diet isn't for everyone because we're not all the same. Peanuts make me bloat twice my normal size. It's hard, but a 3 day fast is helpful. Gives your digestive system a chance to rest and heal. You'll notice right away after fasting what causes the bloating. Hope this is helpful to some degree. I'm so sorry about your distress.
