Exactly. When Microsoft was a young company, they basically let people pirate their software because they realized once companies started using it, pirating wouldn't be as easy or economical. It's a great business model because it lets hobbyists try out the software and have fun with it without having to pay obscene amounts of money -- plus the company gets paid once professionals start using it. A similar tactic is to provide free software and then make money through support contracts (Elasticsearch, etc.)

@Joe R The fusion page in Resolve can essentially do everything that can be done in AE. It can be considered even more powerful. The learning curve is steep. But node based editing is superior to layer based is what I have heard. I'm not a pro. I use the free version, and still have done some green screen stuff

Your comments clearly show you dont know the power of Resolve yet. The built in Fusion page is every bit as powerful as AE. And the node editor is vastly superior when you lay in a lot of 3D effects. And you can adjust the light levels simply on the color page. It is a knob. Nice try though. Keep learning. On effects, OFX and BorisFX are both available in Resolve. Given the price and the power of Resolve AI to get stuff done, Resolve is simpler, you dont need as many toys because what you do have has tons of flex. FYI folks I was a VFX Pipeline Architect. I have credits on the patent for 1D to 3D conversion, and Animation design credits and Pipeline design on Avatar among many others. Node vs Layers was debated yeaars ago in animation. Ever since the switch to Maya artists in that realm have unanimously preferred nodes. You just cant do paralell work in layers. Cheers.

Try explainig how to do 2 independent FX on the bottom layer at the same time, but with interactive animation and dynamic momentum. Say a hand full of fire and sparks in a windy place. Fire is slow, sparks are fast. Sparks are not affected by wind as much. :) Resolve is straight forward for it.

I'm sure someone else mentioned it, but you don't have as many crashes on Premiere because you're on Mac. On Windows it's an absolute crashfest, it's so unstable. Adobe puts very little effort into it's Windows userbase vs Mac userbase. I've been using Premiere off and on for 20 years, and they still haven't managed to fix it.

I made the switch a couple of years back, having used Resolve for colour grading for years before alongside Premier, but Adobe just became to slow and expensive really. So I saw Resolve 12.5 when it brought in a reasonable simplistic editing side, until now with 17, which has quickly become an insanely powerful suite of tools. There are a number of things I looked at it this video that ear marked it as being made by someone who has only just scratched the surface, which is cool but some points are very misleading. Also, if you are hung up about plugins, Resolve actually has it already built in or see's a number of them being incorporated with each new release (many times in a year). For instance a while back, I paid £150 for Colour plugin, which has now been added for free (Colour Warper). The two plugins you mention specifically are actual features built into Resolve as standard. And then there is Fairlight Studio, which didn't get a mention, only one of the most powerful audio tools for production you can get and its free.. Anyway, thanks for the video :-)

In davinci you have a full blown counterpart to after effects with fusion. I think u may not know that because otherwise I don’t know why you wouldn’t mention it. On the simple text on ease of use, you can also do that layering on davinci without goin to the fusion page. It's super easy, just go into effects and type in solid color, drop the opacity in the inspector, then put text over it. It's the same process as premier

As someone working for a advertisement film studio, let me tell you why using premiere is still the standard and inevitable: It’s codec support. No matter which codecs u throw at it (just had the new Sony a7siii files and pana s1h clips), it’ll work just fine. Vfx presets practically don’t exist in resolve, and I don’t have the time to animate everything myself. The dynamic link feature in premiere with After effects gives you access to leading vfx tools, 3D tracking and high end compositing. If there’s anything that can’t be done in After effects, it will probably not be me editing the clip, but rather a 3D compositing artist in our studio that uses Houdini etc.. Oh, and I almost forgot, there’s no ProResRaw support in resolve, because they wanna push their own codec (BlackmagicRaw)

As a long time DaVinci user, I'm gonna have to nab a point away from Premiere. 4:05, you can still perform the exact same layering as in Premiere. Place your clip on the bottom layer, on top of that place a "Solid Color", open Inspector, lower the opacity, then place your text on top. No need to go into Fusion. But the great thing about DaVinci is that it gives you various methods to achieve their desired result. Depending on your preferred work flow, you can get results in either the Edit, Color or Fusion tab.

They are all node based. Comparing ae live link with resolve is also wrong. Ae is completely different software. In resolve you do not need a live link. Fusion is just 1 click away.
