Thermacell Mosquito Repellent Device: Do They Work? - Preparedmind101

Preparedmind101 takes a look at a great device for the outdoors that I never see mentioned online. Contrary to popular fantasy, we aren't in a survival situation every time we step in the woods. Whether you are simply camping or just practicing skills, this device can make mosquitos go bye-bye without soaking yourself in deet. Not something everyone will feel they need, but something that many will appreciate.
(Items seen in the video can be found in the "MISC" tab on the Preparedmind101 Store Page.)

Just a tip that I do, use the new mat to push the old one out. That way you don't need a multi tool.

They also have mats with fresh earth scent that makes a great cover scent while keeping the mosquitoes away. I use these when I go straight to the woods after work for a deer hunt. I'm a bow hunter and the deer still walk right under me when i'm in my climber. I have three of these, one in the truck, one in the backpack, and one at the house. I don't go in the woods without one. Great Vid, Thanks.

I wish I could "like" this video twice Chris. I'll be ordering one of these tonight. It seems like every time I edit one of my videos I notice one of those little bloodsuckers on my forehead. Apparently everywhere I shoot video is a perfect mosquito habitat. Thanks for showing this! - Bryan

Have you tried using the USB version of this device ? They are pretty cheap and use the same principle of heating a pad to vaporize the active ingredient into the air. No liquid fuel just 1.5a from your mobile charger. I'm curious what temperature the thermacell heats the pad. USB ones are marked for around 220F and I've measure 190F Also have you tried third party pads? I've seen vids where people recommend ars mat? And also Raid as cheap alternatives. I've even read reviews on permethrin where people say they put a couple drops on used pads and swear they function well. They buy the high concentration liquid and dilute it and put blue coloring.

Technically there are drones with follow features now that are basically a floating robot camera like you described. I think DJI makes them. That being said, they're not as good on battery life as you would need for one of them to follow you around all weekend until you're ready to film lol. So your point is still valid..

+Ted DuPrey I just bought one and am considering using it to bear and bow hunt, I am very curious as to the scent it puts out? Bears have astronomically good sense of smell so I have a few concerns definitely. How do wildlife act in your general area? Do they seem to notice?

Ted DuPrey Okay awesome, I'm not gonna lie when I say I was a little hesitant and more than willing to deal with mosquito's if it meant keeping things the way they are. Well I went out and bought new pads and to my surprise the Thermacell worked perfectly even in deep woods were the mosquitos are the heaviest. I was in the woods for an hour and a half and it worked great and then I went into an area were I knew the mosquitos were going to be intolerable and for another 30 minutes not a single bite! It wasn't just a bad pad but a whole lot of 3 of them....none of the 3 worked? if I do get a bad one down the road do I throw out all 3 and buy new ones, who wants to get eaten alive finding out? I might try making my own pads using one of the many videos showing how to do it, then I wouldn't have to worry about it !!!

@Frank-uf2vn
@Frank-uf2vn 9 жыл бұрын
I purchased a Thermacell and it doesn't work well at all, first off it takes 5 minutes for it to warm up enough to even give off anything from the scent pad and 7-8 minutes to work to its fullest and that didn't keep the mosquitos away (sat with it for over an hour more than once and had gotten eaten alive) and that was on my deck with a few shrubs around it, it was no more than arms reach in any direction from me and at one point I even put it directly under my chair to see what would happen? there was a very mild cross wind and if that's even to much to keep it from working what's the point of having one, not to mention how expensive it gets buying the scent pads and butane....trust me you can burn through a butane cartridge and all 3 scent pads in a weekend ! .... cant imagine how poorly it would actually work in a wooded environment ? I bought the darn thing in the first place because of all the great reviews????? I really don't get it. save your self the money and buy a few citronella candles !
