Collagraphy is a really versatile printing process in which a textured plate is inked up and put through a press. Different textures hold varying amounts. of ink and print different tones. Anything with a low relief texture can be stuck down and used: wallpaper, leaves, fabrics, tapes and threads etc

So interesting to see the details behind the print making process! When I realize how much time and preparation goes into each piece, all the decisions and experimentation, the price of artwork seems amazingly reasonable!

I completely agree! Especially when you don’t edition your work. I normally have one maybe two prints so I really don’t get much out of my plate.

Thanks for another great video! Paper preparation is really important but most resources mention it in passing. It’s always helpful to see how it is actually ts where you pick up all the subtle but important nuances. I’ve soaked so many sheets of paper but you’ve given me some new things to consider!

So interesting and useful! I have a soaking tray for preparing thick paper to press 3-D sculptures into... also for prints of engravings. I hang them up to let them dry before pressing as well...although I let the thick cardboard soak for weeks sometimes. And your film on 'registering' different coloured plates was really helpful; after watching your film: I got to thinking about the plastic transparent folder and the grid it encloses and which you put your plate and paper onto and I realized that I already had something that would work like that: the 61cm mat for the cricut cutter which is sticky, is covered in a grid and has a transparent plastic sheet over it. I can exactly place the plate and the paper above it and it is guaranteed to stay in the same position because it sticks to the mat. It works wonderfully and I'm finally getting the different plates to line up! ...But after getting harassed by a printmaker who assaulted me for breaking the rules of print making and using a printing press wrong, I've decided to not call it 'registering'. I'm going to invent my own name for it: daffodil snatching. ha ha ha ha Thanks again for the fascinating films which are continuing to inspire and influence me.

Your demos have been so helpful!! Love your work, so striking and the details so interesting! I loved printmaking in college, but have been unable to do so until now. I do not have a press and will be burnishing by hand. What thinner paper would you recommend for drypoint that would be available in the US?

Thank you so much Sandra. Glad you feel energised for printmaking 🙌 I think any watercolour paper as long as its no less than 200gsm should be fine

What is that big blue roller you used for blotting called, and where did you get it? I adore watching your videos!!

Thank you so much 😊 It’s actually a printmaking roller which is quite expensive, but just for blotting you could use a rolling pin from your kitchen. If you are interested in the roller anyway I bought it from this UK online store hawthornprintmaker.com/rollers/professional-printing-roller.html
