Prepping 101 - In this video I show you my Rain Water Cistern installation made out of a metal culvert. Rain in the Desert is scarce, so we install Cisterns around the House to catch rainwater and redirect it where we need it most. This one holds about 200 gallons and will last many years.

Yes - Since we only get a small amount of rain each year, we capture and redirect what we can. Thanks 😊

Ok this is awesome. We've talked about, if we EVER get some property and build a tiny house, doing something like this. That's a really nice big water tank.

I've been looking into rainwater collecting systems for a couple of years. Amazing that you're able to create a system yourself. Fantastic! No way I could construct something like that though. I was exploring pre-made systems. P.S. I really like your new intro. Nice to see sweet Duke helping in the construction.

HUH, very interesting. Does the water get really hot in there?
@DesertAdventuresinArizona
@DesertAdventuresinArizona 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it will get hot - There is a tree close by that will shade it some and Stored water is used pretty fast here in the Desert.

I'm about to embark on a similar project but on a substantially larger. scale, 2,500 gal. Did you paint your seams and what paint did you use on the exterior? Did you have to acid prep the outside for painting? We lived in several places in AZ: Cottonwood and Payson. Great state, but yes a real water issue especially with the golf industry. We had a well that was dropping rapidly, we sold before it went dry. Now live high desert in TX

The metal culverts hold water without any sealing. I used good quality primer with house paint top coat on the exterior. Thanks for watching!

I'd like to know what keeps the water from migrating around the tank walls? I assume no special prep for this based on your showing the inside and out of the tank with the form ready for pouring the concrete. Does it seal well? No leaks? Getting ready to install rain harvesting tanks here in Tuscon but really don't want the plastic tanks. Also, how would you say culvert costs compare to tank costs? Oh yes, and another question. How is the tank top fabricated? Thanks for insight and for sharing this project with us..

Hello Charlie - The concrete seals up around the Tank and if you built it deep enough and pour at least 6 inches of concrete, it seals up well with no leaks. This culvert is 3 feet diameter X 7 Feet tall and cost about $500 at the Silverbell Nursery on Silverbell Road. It’s more expensive than plastic but lasts forever. They offer to custom fabricate a top for you for about $250. I fabricated my own with recycled materials and it works fine. Also - this culvert hold about 200 gallons and it’s currently full!

So the concrete will seal bottom of the system?
@DesertAdventuresinArizona
@DesertAdventuresinArizona 3 жыл бұрын
Yes - the culvert is set in about 4 inches of concrete and it seals up tight.
