💙 Who are we?
We are Ben and MP!
Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the work needed was much more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. Watch us as we bring Yabá back to life with the help of an amazing team of traditional shipwrights, sharing every phase of the process, overcoming the highs and lows and having fun along the way.
More about us:

💙 Massive thanks to our amazing team of carpenters that never let us down and continue to amaze us at every step of the process: Toninho, Zeca, Hélio, Claiton, William, Nezo, Nico, Adilson, Beto and Luiz. YOU ARE LEGENDS!

I remember this wonderful channel called odd telling everyone to watch an unknown channel called yaba. The first time watching you guy's cutting off and ripping off large chunks of your hull until every piece was removed. I thought to myself, I couldn't imagine the day you and your amazing team would ever finish and splash your boat again. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your long and very tough journey with all of us.

Woo hoo - the smell of antifoul - so close!!! Ask Zaca if there is any way you can be lowered in and stopped just before floating off so you can check for leaks, especially when everything from new planking, new thru hulls, valves, to even a new shaft log (etc etc etc) has been fitted. Even the best of us have had the odd "woops", - thankfully in my case, we could be hauled out again and the remedy quickly attended too! Why I say to ask Zaca, being a traditional slipway, their system might rely on inertia sliding down the ways to get you far enough out? (Bilge pumps at the ready in a wooden boat launch is standard until she takes up) Having been at your stage on a few occasions, the mix of emotions and sense of accomplishment is profound - well done you 2 guys and the entire Yaba team going back over 3 years!!!

The blue anti-foul looks really nice. Before you painted it on, I was already very impressed with the combination of the bronze below the waterline, the white topsides and the natural wood for contrast. I think that just demonstrates that a boat like Yaba is going to look spectacular regardless of colour scheme.

Your Yabà episodes have been going on for over 3 years? How time flies while watching interesting things. Now you are professional shipbuilders, and you also know your boat inside and out. Very few people have such experience and can tell great stories about reconstruction on their journey. I'm sure we'll see completely different Yabà series on KZfaq in the future, and I'm looking forward to it. How about the ship's watering with the pretty Brazilian cheerleaders in the background - just for the older members of the audience?

MP when you gave that timeline I was amazed to think about watching the first episode on this amazing journey to this day. I must admit that in the beginning I thought you were both mad, had more money than sense and very little skills but to your credit the boat was put into the hands of the amazing shipwrights that were required to do the work. Over the years we have watched and have been inspired by the entire team, Yaba will be remembered in that yard for many years with great affection and what great memories have been made and recorded. You two have such belief in each other, it is beautiful to watch, both humble, so in love with each other and Yaba. What awesome adventures are before you. My absolute compliments to you all
