Instead of salt, use chicken bouillon (veggie bouillon for the non meat eaters). Adds even more depth of flavor, 👍🏾

Can I be your Grandmother and you bring me some of this for my supper, please. My aunt made Mac and Cheese like this, but she passed away. My granddaughter does not know what real Mac and Cheese tastes like because she opens a box-yuk. Since I live alone it is too much trouble and too much food for me. Maybe on her 19th birthday I will make this for my granddaughter--she is a university student majoring in Engineering--I love her so. You are grand!

Cayenne pepper is also really nice in a cheese bechamel sauce like this one. I add cayenne with the nutmeg and it works really nicely together.

That looks great! Love the English cheddar. I mix in a tablespoon of English mustard powder into the flour to make the béchamel. Adds a lovely undertone of flavour.

I just made this Super Bowl. Of course my husband is sampling and he finds it very cheesy. I made ur Victoria cake for Christmas but smaller ones for individual tasting, i found the cake dry and it shouldn’t be, I did something wrong maybe it’s not made for small cakes. Next time I’ll make a bigger one. I find ur recipes to be delicious but pretty easy to make.

VERY similar to my Dad's "Famous" Mac and cheese (adapted from a Good Housekeeping cookbook YEARS ago). We use mustard powder and a cheddar/fontina mixture as our cheeses of choice for a good cheese pull and flavor!! Happy Mac-ing!

Cant wait to try it....question...do you also have a GF version? I have 2 family members gluten sensitive although not celiac...but whenever possible try to accomodate...i myself like to lessen my gluten load throughout the week....i do tend to buy GF pasta ..and GF breadcrumbs .....however when you made your rue sauce...can i substitute GF flour for the flour OR can i just leave it out altogether and do just the milk ..cream...and butter ? Love all your recipes and tips...thanks...new to this channel.

I make this recipe 2-3 times per year! It’s the best baked mac and cheese recipe. I add some velveeta to help it stay creamy even after it cools down.

My only tweak to this great recipe is adding 5oz of Fontina to replace 5oz of Gruyere. So Cheddar/Gruyere/Fontina. Fontina is hands down the most slept-on cheese in America. Melty, great on a burger, so many uses! Love this video. Thanks!
