With Only 3 ingredients besides water, you can make detergent that is every bit as effective as the $10 per gallon version you get at the store. Give each gallon it's own personality with your essential oils (I use 20-40 drops per gallon) and enjoy saving hundreds of dollars over the course of the year!
As I say at 6:57, I mix 5 gallons up in the bucket you see in the video. Then I distribute it into 10 - 1 Gallon jugs. (I fill each jug 1/2 full) Then I fill them the rest of the way up with warm water and shake to mix. This makes a total of 10 Gallons.
I have an HE front loader. I use 1 cup per average load.

I've been using this same recipe for over 10 years and it is just great. Kind of a pain in the butt to make, but 10 gallons lasts me almost 2 years - a man alone. I love the idea of the already flaked Zote (Zoe-Tay, like coyote). That's what I'll use next time. Thank you. You're great. A little advice - for long term storage of Boraxo & Washing Soda - transfer the powders into air tight containers. Otherwise, they'll absorb moisture from the air and turn into rocks!

I made cold process soap for years. Also had a business selling over 20 kinds. I would highly suggest in place of regular tap water to use distilled water. Tap water has more chemicals, and it may turn your soap rancid much faster. It definitely does that for bar soap. The cleaner the better in my opinion.

UPDATE: I am sorry if these products are not as inexpensive where you live. Where I live in Tennessee as of September 2019, the full price for a box of Borax is now about $6, Washing Soda is about $6 and Zote is still 88 Cents. I use the whole box of Zote. I use 1 Cup of each of the Borax and Washing Soda. I state at 7:00 in the video that I FILL the 5 Gallon bucket with hot water and stir in these ingredients before distributing it into the jugs the next day. (I should also say that the next morning it is often super thick and will need a thorough stirring (or squishing with your hands like I do!)). The final product for me, comes out like this: 80 Cents worth of Borax, 80 Cents worth of Washing Soda, and 88 Cents worth of Zote. That is still less than 25 Cents per gallon. Even if the cost were double or triple it would be worth it. The ingredients of Zote are shown in the video. There are no true "Chemicals" in Borax although it is all natural and has chemical properties. I DO use this in my HE front load washing machine. 1 Cup per medium sized load in hot water. I use White Vinegar as the rinsing agent. I hope this helps you. Please be kind. I read every comment, and though most are constructive, some are so hurtful that they almost take my breath away. If you have a better recipe, use it! Make a video for us and we just may join you using it! Thank you and have a wonderfully blessed day! :)

Hi, just watched the video and loved it. I am sooo sorry that you get negative comments. There is absolutely no reason for it. You are helping people. I just started using dryer balls since I got tired of buying Downy (the only fabric softener that I really like and I have tried them all!) and am saving a lot just on that! Since we have four people in our house, this will help a lot and I appreciate it! Just feel sorry for the poor souls out there who have nothing better to do than leave bad or negative comments. They are really lost if they have nothing better to do in their life than spread misery.

I finally watched your video, true we can't get the same ingredients in every area but most of us have Amazon and the wash booster is actually cheaper at 4.?? dollars a box free shipping. I also found the flake soap and borax powder on Amazon by the 5 gallon pail in the low 20's. So for around 60 dollars I can make a lifetime supply of detergent lol. There's always going to be haters just part of being in the spotlight. I get a lot of negative feedback from people on my vids too but so many more say thanks. I'm sure I've save people hundreds of thousands of dollars in repairs and your saving people even more on just this video.

Hi there, thanks for the video. I'm just one person, so how can I make a small portion of this soap for myself? I would only need 2 large bottles of laundry soap. How much does 1/3 of your Recipe make? (1/3 of Zote, 1/2 cup of Borax and Washing Soda, and 1 1/2 Gallons of hot water?) Or better yet, what ratios would I use to make one gallon of dry mixture...and how much do I use for one load of laundry?

I found Zote at a mom and pop store in bar form for 1.99. For me that’s a steal because the .99 cent stores have always had zote but now all the .99 cent stores are closing. I bought all of them. I’m literally set for about a year. The thing is with the bars I don’t recommend a standing cheese grater it’s rough. I bought a rotating one on Temu. But I also heard you can melt it in the microwave. Cut in small squares when in melts flat let it cool break it into pieces and blend it so that you can get those small pieces. I’ve been using homemade for about 6 months and I love that I don’t have to go to the store just for laundry detergent. I saved all my old tide containers. I have little ones that get massive stains and I just use a little more for those tough stains. Can’t believe what I’ve been missing.

Keep It Simple Saints. (KISS) I divide the dry ingredients into 5 portions. (5 mushroom jars) I pour a jar into a pot and fill with 2 quarts hot water from the faucet. It dissolves fast, you don’t need a stove. I add this to 2 more quarts water, and I have my gallon of laundry soap. Add the essential oils of your choice. It cleans well and we smell nice. Life is good. Good video - thank you.

this is almost the same recipe that I've been using for years. our extended family has come to depend on me making laundry soap for everyone. My kids, who usually poo pooh on Dad's prepping projects, show up at our door with their empty laundry jugs looking for more. I've upped the washing soda and Borax tho to a cup and a half each and use either Lavender or lemon essential oils for "flavor". My final process is a little different as well. I take my final 5 gallon batch and divide it into two 5 gallon buckets equally and top them off with additional water stirred in to let it sit over night. In the morning when the soap has congealed on top I take my cordless drill with a long paint stirring wand (because this is the manly part that requires power tools) and just whip the whole thing up for a couple of minutes to fully incorporate everything. I then pour it into recycled bleach jugs labeled with what it is, "Liquid Laundry Soap, Shake Vigorously before use", and the appropriate proportions for load sizes. The first time I did this I used recycled milk jugs. that didn't work out too well. the soap lasts us about a year and some of the jugs dissolved. what a mess. so we switched to chemical grade containers over food grade.

Krista, you have one of the MOST practical channels on KZfaq for when it comes to prepping. My wife and I take up the notepad more often for your vids than all the others we watch combined. You truly have found the "meat" of prepping and surviving as history has shown us we are likely to encounter. In many ways, you bring back so many of the things that I learned from my grandparents when they had to survive the Great Depression. And in many regards, I think how people made it through the Great Depression is as good of a description for what you present as any, although DON'T CHANGE PREPSTEADERS! You own it, rock with it. Instead of making a heavy drum of liquid soap, just mix thoroughly the dry ingredients and use a half cup or so in an old laundry detergent bottle or milk jug. Fill bottle with hot water and shake every couple of days until it's fully dissolved. Double bag dry ingredients and store separately. Shake prepared bottle each time before use, works very well.

That's my exact recipe! I love using frankincense with mine. I usually wait to add my essential oil until I make a gallon, that way I can change the fragrance ,especially when I give it as a gift.

Swtlysinging GODSONG how much essential oil do you add to a gallon of your detergent? I too would rather change scents all the time, get bored with them if making so many gallons. Thanks for answering if you choose to do so. Love your name by the way :)

If keeping it warm helps with incorporation of the ingredients, wrap the bucket in a nice thick comforter before you leave it to sit overnight. If you use the zote bars, cut it into chunks and toss it in a food processor or food chopper. Much easier than grating it!
@Happy2Run4Me
@Happy2Run4Me 8 ай бұрын
I’ve done that but cut it up in chunks and froze the pieces and then ran them through the food processor. I did that for my powdered laundry soap mix but it would work in liquid as well I’d think.

My household (my parents, my siblings and I) are a family of 8, and i just told my mom that we should try this out. She is really open to the idea and although we might use a different recipe, it will be so cost effective, and the citronella property in the soap is definitely what we’re looking forward to! -love from Canada! :)

Thank you for sharing your recipe! I made it with the Zote flakes as you recommended. Found it at my local WalMart. Was cheaper than what I found online. It works very well in the HE machines at the laundromat. With just my husband and I, the 10 gallons will last us a VERY long time. Really appreciate the scripture reading at the end of your videos. Thanks again.

I have watched your videos for many years. You have an amazing educational channel. I am going to try make your laundry recipe. I appreciate how you offer and describe the different soaps as an option. I buy my organic laundry soap from our local farmer's market. I use the cleanest laundry soap I can buy on the market, but it can get expensive. I am looking forward to trying your recipe and making tweaks if needed. We are sensitive to scents. My mom is excited about trying it as well. Thanks for helping people save money. I like how making your own soap allows us to use substitutions to fit our individual needs. Making our own laundry soap helps us control what we put in it. Thank you for the explicit instruction on your videos.

Today I ran out of laundry soap and have a ton of laundry to do I just made some of my old recipe then I saw your video and I had already had some zote I cooked up months ago for emergency dish soap so I put it together with some washing soda unfortunately I'm out of borax at the moment but I figure this will do in a pinch ( since I'm thanking the Lord I have something to wash with) Thankful for your video too ! We are beyond tight on finances right now so this was the Lord showing me another way to do this . So thankful !! It really was make my laundry soap or go without ! God bless !

Hi Christa, This is a wonderful idea. And what a money saver!! And I have to share that the feels-naphtha soaps is great to have on hand...not just for making laundry detergent. My mother always had a bar in the medicine cabinet in our bathroom. It’s great to wash with if you get any sort of skin irritation like poison ivy, etc. Oh...and I wanted to share...I have never tried this myself...but I have seen people make their own Arm and Hammer washing soda by drying baking soda in the oven. Interesting. Thanks again for all you share....and I so enjoy the Bible reading at the end. Love, Mary ❤️😀❤️ PS...I love your necklace!!

@@gloriamontgomery6900Lava soap also works for poison oak or poison ivy. Wash within 8 hours of exposure. I am highly allergic…and, for me, Lava soap works 100% of the time. I find it at ACE Hardware for about a dollar a bar.

I've been doing this for 3 years and haven't looked back! I also add a few drops of aromatic essential oil when I want it to smell nice. I use trisodium phosphate (TSP from the hardware store) as a rinsing agent, too, and hang my clothes on a clothes line when the weather is nice. (I also have the exact same tea kettle, but that doesn't make any difference...LOL) I make mine in a large stainless steel stock pot on the stove so I can get everything dissolved and then let that set up overnight. I transfer that to a lidded bucket (an old kitty litter container) and use about a fourth of a cup of the resulting gel for each large load. It seems to last forever.

I agree with the men that you are beautiful but you also present your material well and to the point. I like that. There are some that talk too much and go off topic and you can't figure out what they're trying to say. Good Job. I also like that you are a Christian and proud of it. Someone mentioned on another video that the box of Zote flakes equals two bars. I know the weight does not measure up to that (14 oz for one bar and 17 oz for one box), but it appears from feeling it, that the flakes are much drier than the bar, so it makes sense that the one box equals two bars, but without as much moisture. So, I also think the flakes are the way to go: already flaked and no more expensive. However, having bars of Zote in the house is good for other things: stain remover, washing other things like dishes (just let some of the soap melt in the water for awhile. It doesn't get sudsy, but that doesn't matter. It cleans great. i love using it to clean stainless steel.
