This has been an interesting section of games (LSAT PrepTest 90). Each game so far has had a mostly basic setup, but with a wrinkle of some kind thrown in. For today's game, the third game from PrepTest 90, it's a basic in and out set-up with the twist that one of the elements (but only one!) gets used twice: once on the in-side (in this case "Fall") and one on the our-side ("Spring").

This twist affects both of the conditional clues, and requires that we symbolize them a little differently than we would in a typical in-and-out setup.
I continue to work through all four-hundred-ish official LSAC releases. As always, if there's a particular game you'd like to see, comment down below, and I'll move it up in the order.

Thank you soooo much for this! I couldn't figure out why doing the contrapositives the normal way didn't work (I knew they didn't when I went to do Q16 and no answer choices worked). Thank you so much for explaining how we should have approached the contrapositives in the beginning of the video. Are there any other games like this that you know of? (In/out with repeating elements)

So glad it was helpful! I've done a couple other in and out games on video, but I don't think I've done another one yet that re-uses elements (which are typically the ones where you need to be really careful about contrapositives). I'll look for one to complete. But also, if you find one, feel free to request it here and I'll put it on my list!

My question is: for #17, how is E not also correct? Either V and or M must be in the Spring and Fall. So if attempting to prove E wrong, V would have to be in the fall making it HMV for fall. Then it would have to be TMO for Spring but if M is in spring then H has to be too... Don't V and T both have to be in the Spring?

The trick is that the clue does NOT say if M is in the spring then H also has to be in the spring. The initial clue says if H is in the fall, then M is in the fall. The contrapositive would be that if M is NOT in the fall, then H is not in the fall. In a typical in-out game, this would mean exactly what you think, that if M is in the spring (the only way for M not to be in the fall), then H also has to be in the spring (the only way for H not to be in the fall). But because we can re-use elements, that actually doesn't have to happen. For example, you can imagine a scenario where M is in both the fall and the spring, in which case the contrapositive "if M is NOT in the fall" would not apply. That's exactly what's happening here, as you could have HMV in the fall and MTO in the spring. That doesn't break the HM rule, and it also means that even when H is in the fall, V doesn't have to be in the spring (which would eliminate (E) as a must be true answer choice).

Thanks for this. But at 16:37, for #15. You sketch out HMT but then cross out HMV for choice B. Am I just sleep deprived?

No, you're right, I think I accidentally read (A) again. Really what I should've noticed is that HMV happened as one of the possibilities on #17, and so we can cross it off 'cause we had seen it before.

Please explain the 93 pt logic games section, if you can. It would be of great help!

What’s the pacing goal you have in mind for your section? Are you looking to finish 2 games or 3 games out of the 4?

@@polymathematic I am watching you figure out the problem for yourself. Explaining to the person watching your video is secondary. I can live with that because I can pause it. But when you are just trying answer choices you move the screen up and down it is super fast.

I am 50 yo. I plan to take the LSAT in August. It is rare to find study help that even tackles the harder LGs and I can actually see what is going on in your mind. You are solving to solve the problem not sell me a program that takes weeks etc to learn all the question types.

I drew out six game boards based off the MV rule and one board didn't work because it contradicted the first two rules. Is this correct? I couldn't do it without the boards.
@polymathematic

So, I'm not sure what you mean by "game boards". Like, before answering any questions you went ahead and tried to distribute the elements in six different ways to see what would happen?

@@polymathematic I had one board with M in fall and V in spring, another with V in fall and M in spring, one with MV in fall and M in spring, MV in fall and V in spring, MV in spring and M in fall, and lastly MV in spring and V in fall. All other pieces float.
