In this video we deep dive into 7 ways we can correct and treat presbyopia.
Presbyopia: age related accommodative weakness is a increasing problems in the adults. Various treatment options exist, including prescription glasses (bifocal, monovision and progressive lenses), contact lenses (segmental monovision and bifocal lenses), and surgery. There are three types of surgery:LASIK, conductive keratoplasty, corneal inlays and accommodative intraocular lenses.
Because of its rising prevalence worldwide as the population ages, the high proportion of untreated individuals in some parts of the world, and the limitations of current corrective methods, presbyopia is an area of significant unmet need.
In elderly people, progressive or bifocal spectacles are associated with peripheral blur, a limited visual field, and impaired depth perception, which has been linked to an increased risk of falling.
Symptoms of dry eye and reduced manual dexterity associated with aging can make it difficult for patients to maintain contact lenses. There are also surgical interventions that modify the optics of the cornea, replace the crystalline lens, or restore active accommodation. After surgery, many patients report satisfactory results, but they eventually need reading glasses.
