This was great Vanessa!!! I wholeheartedly ageee on the visual schedule. Many many years ago my first teaching experiences were with children with autism and we used aspects of “TEACCH”That is when I learned the importance of left to right and top to bottom. In that program they use a finished Or all done box. So now with my schedules when each part of the routine is done, i put it in the “finished box” so children can visually see the schedule getting smaller

Praise the Lord! We don’t prepare students for the next year. Prepare them for the current year and next year that teacher will have an easier time.

The concept of a linear calendar was new to me but one I see as incorporating many aspects that are more developmentally appropriate and meaninful to younger children. I work in a pre-school room with students who have severe multiple impairments so whilst their chronological age is between 4 and 6 years their developmental level is much younger. Some of the students I work with have no verbal speech, some have verbal vocabularies of one or two words. Differentiating what we do to work with each student at their level can be challenging. with each student at their level can be challenging. This video gave me much food for thought; I wish I had found your videos months ago.

I homeschool and my children get upset at how long it takes for the next month to come. "Why is April taking so long?" "Why is it not May yet" so I'm super excited to try this to help my 2 littles understand better with this. I truly wish I had homeschooled my 12 yr old as well. He has very limited speech and is behind and I didn't realize how much I needed to be way more involved and believed it was the schools responsibility. I'm retraining my brain to realize It should have been a team effort.

This was a nice trip down memory lane for me. I’ve been retired for 8 years now from teaching little ones in my early childhood special education classroom. Vanessa, you and Karen Cox were my lifesavers back then! I wish I had access to your YT channel when I was teaching. 😊 Thanks for everything you’ve done to promote best practices in ECE!

Hi! I just recently found your channel and LOVE it! I’ve been in the early childhood profession for over 25 years but there’s always new tips, tricks and improvements to be learned 😉 I’m new to the linear calendar and would love to incorporate it into my circle time instead of the traditional calendar. But I only have my big teacher easel to put it on and it’s not big enough for the whole month. I think if I sized the cards down to fit, they would be too small. Wondered what your thoughts or suggestions would be. Thanks for all the amazing videos! ❤❤❤

I have a question, if a child is having trouble keeping their hands to themselves, do you put them separetly at a table where they can still see everything and participate or not?
