Dr Bimal Patel’s presentation on the Redevelopment of Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) land, one of the prime areas of Mumbai. This is organised as a part of the CEPT Urban Design Roundtable on Nov 19 at 6 PM.
The use of Mumbai Port Trust facilities has declined in the recent decades following the shifting of activities to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT), across the bay at Nhava Sheva. This has created a unique opportunity to develop a large expanse of central land in the island city. Dr. Patel’s presentation will focus on the new approach he has taken in redeveloping the first phase of the project, covering about 2.53 sq. km. It will detail how the land can be used efficiently and innovatively, regulate the development using a form-based approach and enhance public spaces by discouraging under-developable private land.
