1. US President George W. Bush walks to podium
2. SOUNDBITE: (English) George W. Bush, US President:
"Good morning. Last night I had a warm conversation with president-elect Barack Obama. I congratulated him and Senator Biden on their impressive victory. I told the president-elect he could count on complete cooperation from my administration as he makes the transition to the White House. I also spoke to Senator John McCain. I congratulated him on a determined campaign that he and Governor Palin ran. The American people will always be grateful for the lifetime of service John McCain has devoted to this nation, and I know he will continue to make tremendous contributions to our country. No matter how they cast their ballots, all Americans can be proud of the history that was made yesterday. Across the country citizens voted in large numbers. They showed a watching world the vitality of American democracy and the stride we have made toward a more perfect union. They chose a president whose journey represents a triumph of the American story. A testament to hard work, optimism and faith in the enduring promise of our nation. Many of our citizens thought they would never live to see that day. This moment is especially uplifting for a generation of Americans who witnessed the struggles of civil rights with their own eyes; four decades later, see a dream fulfilled. A long campaign is ended and we move forward as a nation. Embarking on a period of change in Washington, yet there are some things that will not change. The United States government will remain vigilant in meeting its most important responsibility: protecting the American people. And the world can be certain this commitment will remain steadfast under our next commander in chief. There is important work to do in the months ahead and I will continue to conduct the people's business as long as this office remains in my trust. During this time of transition I will keep the president-elect fully informed on important decisions. When the time comes on January 20 Laura and I will return home to Texas with treasured memories of our time here, with profound gratitude for the honour of serving this amazing country. It will be a stirring sight to watch President Obama, his wife, Michelle, and their beautiful girls step through the doors of the White House. I know millions of Americans will be overcome with pride at this inspiring moment that so many have waited so long. I know Senator Obama's beloved mother and grandparents would have been thrilled to watch the child they raised ascend the steps of the Capitol and take his oath to uphold the constitution of the greatest nation on the face of the earth. Last night I extended an invitation to the president-elect and Mrs Obama to come to the White House and Laura and I are looking forward to welcoming them as soon as possible. Thank you very much."
3. Bush walks away
STORYLINE:
US President George W. Bush fully embraced the election of Democrat Barack Obama as his successor on Wednesday, paying stirring tribute to the election of the first U.S. black president-elect and hailing the campaign of change that led Obama to victory.
Bush promised Obama his "complete cooperation" during the Democrat's 76-day transition to the White House.
The president said he would keep Obama informed on all his decisions between now and January 20, and said he looked forward to the day - soon, he hopes - that Obama and his family would take him up on his offer of pre-inauguration White House visit.

wine barimunsi First all, Trunp does use a teleprompter. When he doesn’t, he sounds foolish. Trump speaks his mind. That is true. I think that was some of the appeal. With that said, he says some really stupid things. “The virus will go away by Easter like a miracle.” “Mexico will pay for the wall.” “Take this unproven drug.” “I got a letter from Kim a few days ago...” - then we find out Kim is hospitalized and possibly brain dead. Trump will not go down as a great president. In 30-40 years history will not look back on him fondly.

Man, I had so many gripes with Bush's policies, but nobody can deny he was a class act in the way he carried himself. This is a great speech showing phenomenal leadership. As much as I didn't like this man's presidency, I was always confident he cared about America and Americans and that, even if we disagreed, he had a lot of love in his heart. Unfortunately you can't change others. But you can act like this yourself. I've been doing politics for over ten years now and the least I can tell you is that there is still a _significant_ number of people, both inside the parliaments of the world and outside on the streets, who have great respect for this. And they will pay it back in their own ways. Not everyone, of course, especially not today. But being a class act will never not resonate with people. And if it inspires some of them to follow your example, you've already made the world a better place and established your own tiny, little legacy. More to come, or maybe not, doesn't matter. At that point it was already worth it.

Would a president who cared about the American people get the US involved in a war that was phony from day one, had nothing to do with 9/11, was based on no risk to America, and sold with a pack of lies that kept changing? I'll never understand how George W. Bush gets a pass. As awful as Trump is, Bush is the platinum standard for treason, contempt for his office and his country.

I grew up taking this for granted as baseline Presidential behaviour. Even though I hated Bush during his time and considered him and Cheney to be crooks after the Florida recount of 2000, I STILL had complete confidence that they'd respect the transitional process of 2008-09 (which they of course did), and the two of them look like absolute saints next to the new low created by Trump-Pence.

It has been an interesting contrast seeing Bush as POTUS and Bush as a private citizen. After a few years, it made me realize that the George W. Bush we saw in the Whitehouse was merely a puppet "controlled" behind the curtain by the likes of Dick Cheney and Karl Rove . I think he was forced into becoming a president because he was part of the Bush family and that's it. He was a talking head for the more conservative parts of the Republican Party and when those policies were a failure Bush got the blame instead of them. In the end, I will remember George W. Bush the same way I remember Jimmy Carter. Bumbling presidents with good hearts that gave back more to the people of America as private citizens then they ever did as presidents.

I think you cannot really compare that. This was after Bushs second term, so he did not lose those elections, his time was over anyway. If you look 8 years earlier, he also did not accept that that the majority of americans voted against him and he even only won the electoral vote in court. But of course Trump beats Bush by far in being the worst preseident ever. At Bush I can at least understand that some people liked him as person, Trump is a disgrace for the whole human species.
