If you're 59, then you were just a kid when Carter was president. What sacrifices did you personally have to make? What, no summer vacation trips to Disney World (my family went there, Sea World, Wash DC, Baltimore and NYC almost every summer bc we budgeted our money), no summer camp (we went to free day camp at the local university), no summer or after school job(BS the government youth summer jobs program and after school programs were created then and there were still plenty of newspaper routes, carwashes, yard work and odd jobs of all sorts available back then, etc) ??? Things were even worse for a lot more of Americans during the Nixon and Reagan years... That's how and why we got the Carter and Clinton years, in the first place. Your revisionist/selective memory of history is why people are promoting for CRT to be taught in grade schools, now. Yes, inflation was bad but the country was a mess politically, racially and financially bc of the republican agenda/policies, but everything still cost a lot less than they do now and the nation wasn't in such of a moral decline, like it is now. Carter was even a Sunday school teacher and devout Christian. Only time we ever saw trump(and Melania) at church was when he used the military to interrupt a peaceful protest just to hold a Bible upside down, as a prop in a photo op or a funeral. Yup things were a lot different back then, but they definitely were not great , nor as bad as you're pretending. It was just a different era. Most people still had hope for the American future, unlike now.

Kimmel's not the media. He's not a journalist. He's an entertainer. The fact that so few people know the difference is a fundamental reason why we are where we are. Trump would only go on shows that were friendly to him as well, and those shows were also not journalism. Hell, I can't remember a president in my lifetime (I'm 46) who would go on a show where the host didn't already agree with him. There's nothing new here except the fact that prior to the internet, people could tell the difference between a talk show host and a reporter.
