A rare glimpse of Nixon having a little fun. Apparently Nixon did have a sense of humor, cracking jokes and making people laugh. Awesome clip, wish there was sound.

I read an article that claimed his average was 232, an average professionals would envy. After viewing this, there is no way in hell he could bowl anything near that. Maybe they meant he averaged 232 for a series. That I could believe.

I saw the 232 number being his lifetime high game. Even that is a bit questionable but then again he would be almost 60 during this video so prime bowling days were likely behind him.

According to one of his closest aides, Nixon would on occasion go bowling after work, and he would go bowling all by himself. Nixon was a complete loner and you couldn't help but feel sorry for him. The guy was so socially inept that he couldn't make small talk with a stranger he just met. Almost everything had to be written for him so he would know what to say just to start a conversation with a visiting dignitary. According to one Secret Service agent who was tasked to guard Nixon and his family after leaving office, he said that Nixon was a smart guy, but "if you set him loose out in public with the ordinary citizens, I don't think he could function."

Anyone that has ever listened to all his recorded conversations knows that assessment is totally wrong. Beyond that, imagine a guy that spends every minute of his day talking to people to want to have a little alone time in the bowling alley to relax. And it's true of most smart people that they don't want to sit around and engage in mindless small talk with average people.
