President Raisi’s helicopter crashes in Iran: What we know so far

Let's take a step and recap. Here is what we know so far. A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the foreign minister has crashed in bad weather. Rescue teams are searching and ambulances are on their way.

Why the F would you fly with the president in a helicopter in bad weather? Also, if you were president, why would you get on a helicopter knowing its flying into bad weather? Do they not have weather apps in Iran? The amount of stupidity here is astounding.

Iran is very mountainous, and the weather is very unpredictable, especially where the crash happened. During the summer, random hail storms even happen in the summer afternoon. People don't realize how hostile Iran's weather is, the U.S. experienced the same thing during Operation Eagle Claw. Add to the fact that due to sanctions, Iranian aircraft as not up to date with the latest safety technology, disasters like these happen, even when taking reasonable safety precautions.

As someone who lives in a mountainous region, weather changes by the hour. Most of the time it's very regular, but occasionally you get all 4 seasons in an hour. So typically it's very safe and the risk factor very low, until it's not.

@@airshark2764 Iran is incredibly mountainous with very hostile storms. They have massive hail storms, with ice the size of bricks falling from the sky where the crash happened. The U.S. experienced the same thing during Operation Eagle Claw in a different region. Iran also does not have the latest safety equipment in their aircraft due to sanctions, and combine that with unexpected weather events, unfortunately, it's not uncommon.

If he has died on a mountainside in the north of the country, as looks increasingly likely, it will be a major moment for the country and the region. It will remove from the Middle East one of its toughest most uncompromising players. A man who launched the first direct attack on Israel in his country's history and a hardliner on whose watch hundreds of Iranians have been killed in the brutal repression of recent women-led protests, Mr Raisi has a huge amount of blood on his hands.
